in them.

Seeing his unstable state, I decided to play along.

“John, can you untie me first?”

“Nora… you haven’t called me John in so long. Say it again. Please, just a few more times.”

I repeated his name over and over, trying to soothe his agitated state.

He let his guard down and untied me.

Just then, the car began to slow down.

The assistant’s voice came from the front.

Mr. Sterling, there seems to be a problem with the car…”

While John was distracted, I threw open the door and jumped.

‘Nora, no!”

had tucked my head, protecting it as I rolled. I was scraped and bruised, but mostly unharmed.

pressed a hand to my bleeding arm and stumbled toward the woods by the side of the road.

John’s assistant was someone I had recommended for the job years ago. He had always wanted to repay

  1. His warning about the car had been a signal.

But I hadn’t expected John to jump, too.

He wasn’t as lucky. His forehead was bleeding, and in his haste to chase me, he hadn’t protected himself. He

had broken his leg.

His hand closed around my wrist, his grip painfully tight.

Nora, are you leaving me again?”

John, let go!”

“Nora, I’m not letting you go! I can’t take another day without you! It’s been torture!”

He still wouldn’t let go.

“John, I would rather die than go back with you!”

I would never forget that year. The starlet he’d nearly killed. The news plastered all over the internet for a

For three whole months. It was a nightmare.

I knew that if he got me back to the city this time, he would hide me away forever.

I bit his hand.

He winced but didn’t let go.

So I kicked his knee, hard.

He fell to the ground, watching as I walked away.

A few days later, my fiancé and I held a grand wedding at a seaside resort back in the city.

I wasn’t surprised when John showed up.

“Nora, please, don’t marry him!”

“I know I was wrong! It was all my fault! You can hit me, you can scream at me, just please, come back with

me!”

He fell to his knees before me.

A powerful man, brought low by love. It was a moving sight. But I was not the same Nora.

The woman whose entire world revolved around him was dead and gone.

Bodyguards intervened.

As John watched in despair, my fiancé and I exchanged rings.

As my new husband carried me to the wedding car, guests surrounded us, showering us with congratulatio-

าร.

No one paid any attention to John.

Until someone shouted.

“Someone’s in the water!”

I knew it was him. I didn’t look back.

The irony was not lost on me.

It was the very same sea he had used to taunt me on April Fool’s Day.

In the end, all things come full circle. All actions have consequences.
