“Funny how your car accident happened the same day Elara got hurt.”
Mom and Lyra were convinced I’d been set up, so they’d gone to the police to find the truth.
So what was Elias so afraid of? Using such a lame excuse to sneak a peek at what really happened.
Did he really think I could kill myself just to frame Zora?
The surveillance footage rewound, and soon everything became crystal clear.
Zora and I were standing by the roadside talking when a motorcycle came speeding toward us. I pushed Zora out of the way but got hit myself.
I nodded. Lifted my chin to look at Elias.
That’s exactly what happened.
Zora had come to me saying she wanted to clear the air about her relationship with Elias so I wouldn’t get the wrong
idea.
We talked and talked but she never made anything clear.
Then that motorcycle came barreling down.
If I hadn’t pushed her out of the way, Zora might be the one who died today!
Elias’s face turned absolutely thunderous.
“Elara! You idiot!” Lyra cried out through her tears.
I wanted to wipe away her tears, but my hand passed right through.

With the truth finally out, I felt relieved and turned to leave, but then I noticed no one else had moved.
The surveillance wasn’t over yet!
Zora actually stood up!

Wait, then what about her fracture?
In the surveillance footage, the motorcycle circled back, and the rider got off to say something to Zora.
Then Zora walked over to where I was lying and smashed her own leg by herself!
I felt cold run down my spine, every hair standing on end.
What kind of monster was she?
How was she more like a ghost than me?
The rest played out pretty much as I remembered. I slowly regained consciousness to find Zora pretending to be unconscious, so I called 911.
But because of my head injury, I couldn’t remember anything that had happened before.
Zora seized the opportunity to claim I’d pushed her. Even though I didn’t believe I would hurt anyone, with my nemory gone, I couldn’t defend myself.
Even in the ambulance, since I looked relatively unharmed compared to her, Elias thought I was just being nanipulative and dismissed me completely.
Elias went deathly pale.
After all, in his heart, Zora had always been that sweet little girl who needed his protection.
Now suddenly discovering she was a carnivorous plant must have been a massive shock.
His voice came out hoarse, his tall frame seeming to shrink as he bowed his head before my mother. “Mrs. Morgan, I wear I will make sure to avenge Elara.”
‘Avenge?”
Mom’s gaze was ice–cold, cutting through Elias like a blade.

With that, Mom and Lyra turned to bow deeply to the police officers, tears in their eyes.
The officers bowed back respectfully.
They all filed out together, leaving only Elias hidden in the shadows.
