When I finally composed myself and headed to the team meeting, I found the members exchanging uncomfortable glances.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
One of them shifted awkwardly. “I went to call Director Reed for the meeting, but Bailey was in there
with him. He said… he said he’s busy and tonight’s meeting is canceled.”
Another team member couldn’t contain his frustration and muttered, “This is completely unprofessional. Pre–mission briefings are standard protocol–you can’t just cancel them on a whim. And with Autumn right here waiting, he just…”
He didn’t finish what he was saying, but I got the message.
I dug my nails into my palm to maintain my composure.
“I’ll check on the situation.”
The moment I pushed open Logan’s door, I heard a flirtatious giggle.
Bailey was perched on Logan’s lap, one arm draped around his neck, posing dramatically for his phone camera.
Seeing me, her smile widened.
“Don’t get the wrong idea, Autumn. Logan and I are just like close siblings!”
Logan barely glanced at me, allowing Bailey to continue her shameless display.
“Stop acting superior just because you’ve been an interpreter longer than everyone else.”
“Let me tell you, if you don’t want a divorce, apologize to Bailey right now.”
“And when we get back, talk to the Director about approving Bailey’s application for permanent
position.”
I really wanted nothing more than rush over and slap both that cheating jerk and his shameless mistress across the face, then scream: “Divorce is EXACTLY what I want from you!

But reason prevailed–it wasn’t time for confrontation yet.
I clenched my fists, nearly grinding my teeth as I spoke:
“The Translation Bureau isn’t my family business, and the Director isn’t my father. I can’t magically convert an external consultant to staff.”
Logan let out a mocking laugh, speaking as if it were completely justified:
“Didn’t you just receive that commendation last week? Trading your medal for a permanent position shouldn’t be difficult for someone like you.”
I took several deep breaths, reminding myself not to stoop to their level.
“I came to inform you about the team meeting. Everyone’s waiting.”
Before Logan could respond, Bailey cut in impatiently:
“Are you all completely useless? It’s just a meeting–does Logan really need to be there in person? I honestly wonder how any of you got into the Translation Bureau. Did you all use connections to get in through the back door?”
Her hands began roaming provocatively over Logan’s body.
‘You promised you’d spend tonight with me, remember? Don’t break your word. I’ve brought several sexy costumes!”
At her words, Logan’s eyes darkened with desire, all professionalism abandoned instantly.
He shot me a cold look:
‘Get the hell out. Do I need to escort you personally? You’re such a mood–killer. I honestly don’t know what my mother was thinking when she picked you as a daughter–in–law.”
Without another word, he scooped Bailey up and carried her toward the bedroom.
Within moments, revolting sounds of playful laughter and moans filtered through the door.
Those sickening noises pierced my heart like thousands of needles.
Once, Logan and I had shared genuine happiness together.

Unfortunately, all that sweetness evaporated the moment Bailey appeared in our lives.
In my previous life, I’d convinced myself he was simply deceived by her.
Now I understood–this was who he truly was!
