When she opened her eyes again, Winter saw the nurse looking at her with concerned eyes.
“How are you feeling? Should I call someone for you–your parents or husband?”
Winter’s lips were dry and pale as she spoke, her voice hoarse.
“My parents are gone, and I don’t have a husband. I’m single.”
Before she could finish, Dominic pushed open the door, frowning as he looked at her.
“Single? Weren’t you the one begging me to get that marriage certificate just days ago?”
Seeing his cold expression, Winter’s voice was filled with exhaustion.
“Check whose name is on that marriage certificate if you don’t believe me.”
Dominic didn’t understand her meaning, thinking she was just jealous and throwing a tantrum. His tone was impatient.
“Winter, if it wasn’t to save Aurelia, I would never have married you! I just wanted to give the woman I love a proper proposal. It won’t affect your status as Mrs. Thorne. I don’t have time to
humor you, so stop making a scene.”
Hearing him speak his true feelings, Winter’s eyes dimmed.
“I’m not making a scene. Whether you propose to Aurelia or hold a wedding with her, I couldn’t care less. I just want you to leave me alone too, and stop disrupting my life.”
Dominic stared at her intently, as if trying to interpret her words.
But quickly, he realized that perhaps Winter loved him so much that she was content with just having the title of his wife, nothing more.
The room was quiet for a long time. Eventually, he withdrew his gaze, his tone softening.
“If so, from now on, we’ll be a marriage in name only. As long as you’re available to donate blood whenever Aurelia gets hurt, I’ll never give you a divorce. Yesterday at the reunion, you shielded Aurelia from that champagne tower. There’s twenty million in this card–consider it compensation.”

Dominic tossed the bank card on the table and turned to leave.
