Chapter 19
Winter had adapted well to her new environment. Outside of work, she often went out with Lucas.
They were now together, and she frequently asked him about his past. Lucas answered her questions patiently, again and again.
Lucas asked her why she always wanted to hear about the past.
Winter playfully told him that she’d experienced so many unpleasant things that only by hearing good stories could she override the bad memories.
In truth, it had been so long, and her focus had always been on Dominic, that she’d never noticed someone quietly watching over and protecting her. She wanted to learn more about her Appley.
Lucas rested his head on her shoulder like a loyal golden retriever, and Winter couldn’t help but ruffle his hair.
“Tell me again,” Lucas pleaded. “Tell me again how you found me among all those apples…”
Days passed peacefully. Under Lucas’s guidance, Winter completed her design courses early and became a rising star in the design world.
Winter had always planned to create her own brand. Having left her past behind, it was time to embrace her new life.
Lucas fully supported her and encouraged her to pursue her vision.
Sometimes Winter felt guilty for almost forgetting her childhood friend Appley.
“But now, Winter is with Appley, and Appley is very happy. He doesn’t feel shortchanged at all.”
Winter was grateful for her second chance at life and for not repeating her mistakes. She’d found the treasure she’d once lost, and her eyes held even more tender affection when she looked at Lucas.
Lucas gently kissed Winter’s forehead. “Winter and Appley have many, many years to be together.”
This was both Appley and Winter’s promise, as well as Lucas and Winter’s vow.
