Chapter 22
Drew secretly arranged for people to collaborate with Vanessa, allocating five percent of the company’s annual profits to fund her projects.
He didn’t dare disturb Vanessa directly, choosing instead to protect her in his own way.
When the shareholders discovered this news, they confronted Drew once more.
Drew simply threw the performance agreement in their faces, silencing their complaints.
He had signed an indefinite contract with Vanessa’s organization–as long as she continued
developing rural villages, the funds would keep flowing.
Drew received daily reports about Vanessa, including videos of her work. She grew increasingly
confident and radiant.
She became Drew’s motivation to carry on.
One night, as Drew rose from his desk, his vision suddenly went black, and he collapsed to the floor.
When he regained consciousness, he saw his mother by his bedside, her face streaked with tears.
Drew’s repeated head injuries had caused bleeding in his brain, creating pressure on his nerves in a
location too delicate for surgical intervention.
He could lose his vision or consciousness at any moment, and there was even a risk of death.
Upon hearing the news, Drew’s first thought was fear that he wouldn’t be able to continue protecting
Vanessa.
“At least I signed the contract. I’ve played a part in her future.”
“Mom, I’m sorry. I realized too late–I not only hurt Vanessa but broke your heart too. If I die, please look after Vanessa for me.”
“If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t be such a bastard.”

Later, Drew slipped into a coma with no indication of when he might wake.
His mother, distraught, sought out Vanessa, hoping she would visit Drew.
At that moment, Vanessa had just thrown away the flowers Drew had sent. Dressed in a crisp white suit, she looked poised and professional. She was startled when she saw Drew’s mother.
His mother had always been kind to her. Vanessa smiled slightly and walked toward her. “Mrs.
Blackstone, what brings you here?”
“Vanessa, my son is in a coma. The doctors say he could die at any moment. Please, would you see him? Just once?” Drew’s mother broke down sobbing. “I know I shouldn’t bother you, but I…”
Vanessa’s expression changed slightly. She steadied Drew’s mother but shook her head. “I’m sorry, I
can’t go.”
“I don’t want any further connection with him. I understand if you blame me, and I’m sorry.‘
“Do you know you can never truly separate from him? He’s given you…” Drew’s mother stopped herself, remembering Drew’s instructions not to reveal the truth about their partnership.
Drew feared that if Vanessa discovered the truth, she would unilaterally terminate the agreement.
truly couldn’t bear to lose this last remaining connection between them.
Vanessa looked confused but bowed respectfully to Drew’s mother. “We have no relationship
inymore. I’m sorry.”
Vanessa left without hesitation. Drew’s mother covered her mouth, crying, but didn’t pursue her.
As Vanessa exited the building, Mason was just getting out of his car. He smiled and greeted her: Vanessa, the restaurant’s booked. We can go directly.”
Thank you, Mason. We absolutely must secure this partnership with the medical group. Then we won’t need to search for separate medical teams anymore.” Vanessa smiled, immediately >rightening after the gloom Drew had brought to her mood.
‘With Ms. Foster at the helm, no partnership is impossible,” Mason replied.

Chapter 22
Mason was both Vanessa’s partner and the company’s legal counsel.
She had only recently discovered that Mason was extremely wealthy–the heir to the prominent Lawson family in Washington, even richer than Drew.
He had studied law because he enjoyed it and became a lawyer because of her.
Still, Vanessa remained uninterested in romance, focusing entirely on her work.
Mason didn’t seem to be in a hurry, content to remain by her side, occasionally using work as an excuse to take her on what amounted to dates.
In the blink of an eye, twenty years passed.
Vanessa helped more and more villages escape poverty, becoming one of the nation’s top ten
advancing further in her chosen field.
ty years of companionship finally paid off when he and Vanessa obtained their icense, becoming her lawful husband.
As for Drew, he remained in a coma for twenty years. Just before his death, he experienced a
moment of lucidity and opened his eyes.
He said he had traveled through time, back to when he and Vanessa were deeply in love. This time, he hadn’t betrayed her or cheated. They had married, had children, and lived happily ever after…
