Chapter 4
It all came back to me.
I wasn’t alone at that business dinner–Mason was there with me.
Mason had urged me to drink less, handed me a glass of water, then apologetically told everyone he needed to handle something at the office before leaving me there alone.
Afterward, I kept wondering where the drug came from–the alcohol? The food? The utensils?
I considered every possibility, but never once suspected the water Mason had given me.
I was speechless.
Bastard? Monster? Scum?
No word seemed adequate to express the rage boiling inside me.
My vision began to blur, Mason’s figure doubling before my eyes, but he continued his verbal assault.
“What? Not going to deny it? You know exactly how those other contracts were secured.”
“Zane was already into you. I just helped things along. What’s the big deal?”
My breathing became labored, my body weak. I had to lean against the wall to stay upright, my voice barely above a whisper.
‘Mason, nothing happened between me and Zane…”
He raised his hand, cutting off my explanation.
‘You know the truth in your heart.”
‘If you’re really so pure and innocent, why can’t you have children?”
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
“What does one have to do with the other?”
A flash of disgust crossed Mason’s eyes.
“Don’t play dumb. Too much promiscuous sex affects fertility. Everyone knows that.”
“I didn’t leave you the moment you cheated on me. That was pretty damn decent of me. So stop clinging to something that’s over.”

Chapter 4
I stared at him, suddenly feeling like I was looking at a stranger.
“You’re that eager to clear the way for your little girlfriend?”
“Yes, Emma is young. She was a virgin when we got together.”
At the mention of his girlfriend, warmth crept into his eyes. “I owe her a proper commitment.“.
Then, he picked up a document from the coffee table.
It had been there all along, but I hadn’t noticed it.
When I saw the words “DIVORCE AGREEMENT,” my heart seized violently.
I coughed up blood and collapsed.
“Emma, baby, I know you’re upset, but I’m fixing this right now.”
“I’ve already had someone handle the online gossip. How about we announce our relationship officially after we get the marriage certificate?”
“Of course I won’t let you suffer anymore. Just hang in there, sweetheart. After we’re married, we’ll go to Hawaii like you’ve always wanted.”
I regained consciousness to the sound of Mason on the phone.
His tone was completely different from how he spoke to me.
Perhaps because his pregnant girlfriend was indeed young, and in his eyes, pure–so he treated her with genuine
tenderness.
The last time I heard him talk like that was when we first started dating.
Just as the bitter memory crossed my mind, Mason ended his call.
“Good, you’re awake. Stop playing dead.”
He was still holding the divorce papers and now pushed them toward me with a pen.
As if afraid I’d fake unconsciousness to avoid signing,
Without hesitation, I took the papers and quickly signed my name.
He seemed surprised by my cooperation, raising an eyebrow,
“That was easy.”

Perhaps in a good mood now, he even deigned to offer a few more words.
“You can keep the house.”
‘I’ll give you an extra $20,000,000. That should be enough for you to live comfortably.”
As he turned to leave, I called after him.
‘Mason.”
My body was still weak.
My voice barely a whisper.
He paused at the sound of my voice: “What now?”
His face showed nothing but impatience when he turned around.
‘Remember when we went to the hospital for fertility testing…?”
paused, taking a breath.
‘What are you getting at?”
Seeing his expression, I suddenly smiled.
The pain of betrayal was gone, replaced by the joy of revealing a momentous secret.
‘I was the one who picked up the results. And I lied to you.”
‘The truth is–you’re sterile.”
