Lydia heard every word Isabelle said without missing a beat. She spun around, a confident smile on her face. “My brother–in–law insists on picking me. Are you jealous? And wipe off that disgusting drool! Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror? With your manners, how could my brother–in–law ever notice you? Quit dreaming about reaching so high!”
“You!” Isabelle’s face flushed with anger, and she slammed her hand on the table. “Lydia, just because you’re the director’s niece, doesn’t mean you can be so arrogant!”
“That’s right! We’re all colleagues; your words are too harsh!” Regina added, supporting Isabelle.
However, Lydia remained smugly satisfied with herself, “So what if I am arrogant? What can you possibly do about it? Hit me?”
Isabelle was so enraged she nearly lunged at Lydia, but Rosalie quickly intervened. She whispered urgently in Isabelle’s ear, “Impulsiveness is the devil! If we cause a scene here today, we could lose our internships tomorrow! Is it worth it over something so trivial?”
Rosalie’s reasoning was sound.
Isabelle was not usually impulsive. Hearing this, she calmed down, albeit grudgingly. She snatched up the medical records from the table, stormed out of the office, and shot Lydia a parting glare, “What’s there to be proud of? You’re just a showpiece elevated by your connections! If you ever really have to perform, you’ll be in trouble!”
With that, Isabelle left, and the office finally settled down.
Later that afternoon, a series of emergency car accidents kept Rosalie too busy to think. It was not until dinner time approached that the chaos subsided.
Carrying a notebook and patient files, Rosalie left the inpatient ward and waited at the elevator to head back to her office.
Lost in thought about a patient she had just treated, she was jolted back to reality when the elevator bell “dinged” and the doors slid open.
Rosalie stepped forward to enter, only to halt abruptly upon seeing who was inside. Her feet felt like they were made of lead.

Sunlight streamed through the corridor windows, casting a golden hue across his chiseled features.
He was enveloped in a halo of light, his demeanor cold and majestic, like a sovereign too remote to approach.
