Chapter 10 We Don’t Really Know Each Other
She was startled.
Unexpectedly, Tanya held the elevator door open and smiled gently at Rosalie, “Dr. Hawthorne, why are you just standing there? Come on in!”
Rosalie felt her face stiffen at the moment.
After a brief pause, she stepped into the elevator.

Thomas seemed to notice her then, too. His gaze briefly met hers, his eyes deep and emotionless like a frozen lake at night, devoid of warmth.
To him, she was merely another face in the crowd.
Rosalie could not decipher his thoughts and avoided making eye contact.
Even without looking, she could sense the chilly aura that enveloped him, setting him apart and making him seem unapproachable.
She stepped into the elevator and immediately turned to face the door, her back to them, her eyes fixed on the floor indicator, silently urging the elevator to move faster.

“Dr. Hawthorne!”
As Rosalie was quietly counting the floor numbers, Tanya’s voice suddenly broke her focus.
“Hm?”
Rosalie turned around, looking at Tanya with a puzzled expression, careful not to glance at the man beside her.
“You two haven’t officially met, have you?” Tanya inquired, glancing at Thomas.

Thomas‘ lips parted slightly, his expression unreadable. “We’ve met, but we don’t really know
each other.”
Rosalie felt her grip on the documents tighten.
Don’t really know each other…
That was how he described their acquaintance.
Yet they had shared such a personal moment.
That they ‘don’t really know each other‘ seemed so dismissive.
Well, it was what it was.
“Let me introduce you properly,” Tanya continued, with a hint of pride. “This is Rosalie Hawthorne, one of the intern doctors in your department. And this,” she motioned towards Thomas, “is the new head of neurosurgery, Thomas Lange! Dad really pulled strings to get him back from Munston.”
Rosalie forced a small smile. “Hello, Dr. Lange.”
Rosalie extended her hand in a gesture of goodwill, hoping to shake hands.
However, Thomas seemed oblivious to her offer. He turned to Tanya instead, asking, “Are you free for dinner later? Let’s have dinner together.”
He completely ignored Rosalie’s extended hand.
He also did not spare her a glance!
“There’s always time for dinner,” Tanya replied, visibly pleased.
Rosalie awkwardly withdrew her hand, feeling out of place and regretting her decision to – enter the elevator.
“Where would you like to eat?” Thomas continued, his tone gentle.
“Whatever you prefer.”
“How about sausages?”
“Sounds perfect!”

Chapter 10 We Don’t Really Know Each Other
Rosalie experienced an increased sense of alienation and unwelcome presence at that
moment.
What was she thinking stepping into this elevator?
Sausages…
She recalled that Thomas, who was usually so particular, never cared for such things.
He had a notable aversion to anything he deemed unclean. Yet, back then, she used to tease him by kissing him with a mouth full of sausage. Despite his disgust, he never pusherf her away; instead, he would pull her closer, deepening their playful kiss, leaving traces of grease on his lips.
Then, he would playfully threaten, “If you mess around again, I’ll devour you completely. your sausages included!”
Despite the warning, she would do it again, and he would pretend to scold her, secretly enjoying their little game until their relationship ended six years ago.
