Chapter 12 Sending Him a Burn Ointment
Thomas’s Adam’s apple bobbed seductively before he suddenly reached out and clasped Rosalie’s wandering hand against his chest.
“Dr. Hawthorne, with so many colleagues watching in such a public setting, don’t you think it’s inappropriate to keep touching me like this? Someone unaware might even think… you have ulterior motives toward me.”
Rosalie was speechless.
Keep touching him? Ulterior motives?
Rosalie felt her ears flush with heat, her hands instinctively retracting as though jolted by electricity.
She instantly felt a dozen eyes shift toward them with an unsettling intensity.
“I didn’t mean that. I just…” Rosalie hurriedly tried to explain.
“I don’t really care what you mean.”
Thomas interrupted her explanation with a cold tone, taking long strides and walking away without a second glance.
Rosalie stood there, once again taken aback by his rude manner.
He really is impossible to deal with!
He’s got such a bad temper and is so difficult to get along with!
All these years have passed, and he still has that terrible attitude!
How had she fallen for someone like him back then?
And yet, at this very moment, Rosalie couldn’t ignore the sound of her own unruly heartbeat echoing through her chest.
The wrist he had just held felt searing hot, as if it had been roasted by flames. The warmth spread across her skin and straight into the depths of her heart.
After wrestling with her thoughts for what felt like an eternity, Rosalie finally summoned the courage to take the burn ointment and head to Thomas’s office.

No matter what, the burn on his hand was her doing. Offering some burn ointment as a small gesture of apology seemed necessary.
But when she arrived, Thomas’s office was empty.
“Dr. Hawthorne, are you looking for Dr. Lange?” Just as Rosalie stepped out of the office, she heard nurse Roxy Lynch passing by and asking her.
“Mm.” Rosalie gave a nervous smile.
“Dr. Lange is downstairs in the garden! I saw him when I came up; you can find him there!”
“Thank you!”
Rosalie thanked Roxy, hesitated for a moment, then decided to head downstairs to find him.
She quickly made her way down, still holding the burn ointment she had prepared for him. However, when she reached the small outdoor garden and saw the tender scene on the stone bench, her steps suddenly froze.
Her hand, which was holding the ointment, tightened involuntarily.
“You know, I just went to handle an urgent patient, and you managed to get such a serious burn! If I’d known, I should’ve asked someone else to accompany you for lunch,” Tanya said, her voice filled with concern as she scolded Thomas while applying the ointment.
“Tanya, I can handle it myself.”
Thomas held Tanya’s wrist, his tone distant yet still gentle. “It’s just a small injury. Not a big deal. Put the ointment down, and I’ll apply it myself when I return to the office.”
“That won’t do! I don’t believe you! You said it’s a small injury, but look at it now–it’s all red, and blisters are already forming!” Tanya insisted on helping him apply the ointment.
But as Thomas caught sight of Rosalie’s delicate face reflected in the polished copper statue, he slowly loosened his grip on Tanya’s hand.
He silently allowed Tanya to apply the ointment for him.
Behind him, Rosalie bit her lip.
Thomas’s plaid shirt was casually unbuttoned at the top, lazily revealing a small patch of sun- kissed skin. The burn caused a slight redness on his skin, but it didn’t diminish his allure in the slightest.

Tanya’s soft fingers glided over his muscular chest, and a flush of embarrassment crept up her cheeks. Her heart raced uncontrollably. “Thomas, you still haven’t told me–how did you get burned?”
Thomas’s eyes were calm, but there was an underlying meaning in his gaze as he glanced at the statue. He replied nonchalantly, “I was serving soup in the cafeteria, and an intern doctor that I don’t know accidentally burned me.”
