Chapter 13 New Love and Old Flame
Thomas’s eyes were calm, but there was an underlying meaning in his gaze as he glanced at the statue. He replied nonchalantly, “I was serving soup in the cafeteria, and a female intern doctor that I don’t know accidentally burned me.”
He thought he saw Rosalie’s reflection in the bronze statue, her lovely face turning ashen.
Rosalie instinctively clenched the ointment she held in her hand.
At first, she had at least been someone “barely familiar” in this man’s eyes. Now, she had been reduced to an anonymous stranger he couldn’t even name!
It would be a lie if she claimed she didn’t care at all.
She turned decisively, walking away without looking back.
“Young women these days, so reckless!” Tanya muttered a few complaints under her breath.
Thomas, however, paid no attention to her words.
His eyes involuntarily followed the figure reflected in the statue, tracking Rosalie’s fleeing silhouette until she disappeared around the corner. Only then did he reluctantly pull his gaze back.
“What are you staring at?” Tanya asked, her tone laced with suspicion.
“Nothing.”
Thomas calmly withdrew his gaze, his face showing no trace of emotion.
As Rosalie passed a trash bin, she threw the ointment into it without a second thought.
That’s right, Thomas already has a fiancée. Why would he need my concern and care now? Besides, I’m not the right person for him, am I? What if his fiancée misunderstands?
So, Rosalie, just stay quietly as the stranger he sees you as. That’s how it’s meant to be between us.
This is how it’s meant to be!
As Rosalie reached the corridor, she unexpectedly ran into Tanya.
She paused in surprise.

Wasn’t Tanya in the garden treating Thomas’s injury just now? How did she get back so quickly?
Rosalic gave her a faint smile as a greeting, but she knew her expression must have looker awkward.
Quickening her steps, she tried to walk past Tanya as quickly as possible, but just as they brushed past each other, Tanya stopped her.
“Dr. Hawthorne.”
Rosalie had no choice but to halt and turn back to look at her.
Tanya smiled slightly. “I saw you in the garden just now. Were you there to bring Thomas medicine?”
Rosalie was rendered speechless by her question.
Could I possibly say no?
“Dr. Channing, please don’t get the wrong idea. I only brought the medicine because of Dr. Lange’s injury…”
“I know, and I didn’t misunderstand.”
Tanya didn’t wait for Rosalie to finish before cutting her off. She spoke in a composed yet deliberate tone: “I also know you’re Thomas’s ex–girlfriend. He’s told me everything about you without holding back.”
The revelation genuinely caught Rosalie/off guard. Beyond her surprise, there was also a dull ache in her chest.
It seemed that the man truly loved Tanya–so much so that he couldn’t bear for her to feel the slightest discomfort.
“Dr. Hawthorne, no matter what you two had in the past, he loves me now, and I am his fiancée. So, I hope you’ll maintain an appropriate distance from him. Can you do that?”
Of course!
You’ve already asked me. How could I possibly say no?
Being Thomas’s current partner, Tanya’s request is entirely reasonable.

Chapter 13 New Love and Old Flame
After all, I am a married woman now. Keeping an appropriate distance from any man other than my husband is exactly what I ought to do.
Rosalie replied with a poised smile and a tranquil demeanor, “Dr. Channing, my past with Dr. Lange was nothing more than the mistakes of youthful folly. I hope you won’t take it to heart.”

“Honestly, from the moment we broke up six years ago, I stopped feeling anything for him! I haven’t loved him in a long time! I never will again!”
As soon as Rosalie finished speaking, she noticed a strange and fearful look on Tanya’s face.
“Thomas…” Tanya whispered softly, glancing behind Rosalie.
Immediately, Rosalie heard a dull buzzing in her mind. Following Tanya’s gaze, she turned around.
Thomas was standing there, his expression cold and rigid, exuding an oppressive aura that made her feel as if winter had descended.
His face was unreadable, and Rosalie couldn’t figure out what he was thinking. She couldn’t help but feel a sudden unease.
She knew Thomas had heard everything she just said.
Whether it was her denial of their past or her dismissal of any future together.
But it was better this way, wasn’t it?
There was never any real possibility of a future between them anyway!
Thomas walked toward her, hands in his white coat pockets, his movements deliberate and steady.
With each step he took closer, her heart seemed to skip a beat.
For a fleeting moment, she felt as if she had traveled back to six years ago, with him closing in on her in a way that felt almost aggressive.
But it was just an illusion.
He passed right by her without stopping for even a second. As he walked steadily toward Tanya behind her, he didn’t spare a glance in her direction.
Involuntarily, she turned to watch them.
“What do you want me to do?” The cold wind blew in through the window, and Rosalie heard him ask Tanya in a gentle tone.
