Chapter 9
Sienna covered her swollen face in terror. “Natalie, what… What are you doing?
This time, her fear wasn’t feigned. She was truly scared, Natalie had always been a coward she could manipulare
–what had gotten into her today?
Natalie had truly lost her mind!
Without a word, Natalie continued with her plan.
As if rehearsed, she grabbed the vase on the side table and threw it in Sienna’s direction without any hesitation.
There was a crash, followed by a scream from Sienna
Sienna was utterly shocked that Natalie would dare to throw a vase at her after slapping her
Caught off guard, the vase struck her in the forehead. Blood splattered everywhere.
When Jason came back to his senses, Natalie was swinging the broken vase toward Sienna’s face.
Just as the sharp edge was about to slash across Sienna’s face, he grabbed Natalie’s hand and gave her a heavy
slap.
Jason glared at Natalie fiercely and growled, “Natalie, is this how you apologize to someone? Or did you never
intend to apologize in the first place?”
Instead of giving him a response, Natalie returned a slap to his face without even flinching. Taken aback, Jason
stared at her in disbelief.
Then, another slap landed on the other side of his face.
Jason’s eyes blazed with fury. He looked like he was ready to commit murder at that point “You—Natalie
Spencer!”
Natalie hadn’t held back her strength at all. Her palms were numb from the force of the slap
Eyes cold, she said, “This is payback, Jason Pereira.
One slap for yesterday and one for today. She had returned both slaps—it was only fair
Jason’s eyes widened. For some reason, he felt like Natalie was different from the one he knew.
The woman he thought he could manipulate easily was suddenly beyond his grasp
That loss of control made him feel uneasy. He wanted to question her, but Sienna’s weak cry snapped him back
to reality
“Jason, it hurts”
Jason shifted his attention back to Sienna. She was bleeding profusely from the forehead. Alarmed, he
immediately picked her up and rushed out.
As he brushed past Natalie, he paused for a moment, glaring at her with a frown. Then, he spat out coldly, “Call
the police
Hearing that, Natalie clenched her hands tightly. The cuts in her palm, which had been caused by the broken vase, began bleeding through her fingers. Drop by drop, the blood stained her white dress crimson.
Then again, this was exactly what she had expected. She only made this plan because she knew him well
enough.
After a pause, Heidi immediately called the police as instructed.
With clear evidence of intentional harm, Natalie was arrested and detained at the police station. She was
brought into a cell and interrogated.
“Name?”
“Natalie Spencer.”
“Gender?”
“Female
“Age?”

The officer in charge of her case looked at her file and whispered something to his colleague. After a while, he continued, “You dropped out of college just to get married?”
All Natalie could see was darkness–without end, without light.
Natalie was in her third year of college when the car accident happened. After the accident, she went from a
promising young woman to a blind woman who would never see color again.
Less than a month after the accident, the painting she had made for a contest went missing Later: Stenha terr
first prize in the same competition
Later, she found out that Sienna had taken her painting and submitted it to the contest as her own. When
Natalie tried to confront her, Daphne had flown into a rage.
“You stole 18 years of Sienna’s life. What’s one painting in return? Besides, you’re blind now. You will never paint again. Letting your work be used for the competition is already a favor. Be grateful.”
The next day, Daphne withdrew her from Grendale Art College: She had just been one year away from
graduation.
Natalie took a deep breath, biting her lip hard. Her body trembled slightly
The officer’s voice turned stern. “Answer the question, Natalie Spencer.”
After a moment, Natalie raised her head and looked at the officer with a determined look. “Until my lawyer
arrives, I reserve the right to remain silent.”
Two hours later, she was released from detention.
She stood by the entrance, listening to Benjamin Zimmerman exchanging pleasantries with the police officer. After some small talk, Benjamin turned to leave.
Natalie walked out before him. As soon as they were out of the door, Benjamin lost his temper. “Natalie Spencer, stop right there!”
Natalie did as she was told as Benjamin stormed up, furious. “If you hadn’t been arrested today, Natalie, would
you have told me anything?”
Natalie’s face was pale, her expression bleak. “I wasn’t trying to hide anything from you.
Benjamin was livid. “Really? I can’t believe you, Natalie. You told Bella about all this, but not me. I clearly don’t
mean a damn thing to you.”
She, Bella, and Benjamin had grown up together. Bella, who was one of the best pharmaceutical experts in the
country, was doing research abroad right now.
Meanwhile, Benjamin became a lawyer. He was also one of the best in Grendale, if not the entire country. His
legal fees were counted by the second.
In comparison, Natalie seemed to be the only failure.
Natalie forced out a smile. “Of course not. I have to keep myself in your good books. You won’t be able to get pla
me even if you tried.
Benjamin just stared at her for a few seconds. Then, abruptly, he pulled her into a tight hug and said gently
Fine. I’ll forgive you just this once. Don’t force yourself to smile if you don’t feel like it. It’s ugly.”
His soft tone made Natalie feel warm. It had been a long time since she last felt such warmth.
“If you want to cry, then cry,” Benjamin continued. “I won’t laugh at you.
At that, her long–restrained tears began falling uncontrollably
It was the first time Natalie had cried without holding back since she learned the truth. All of her restrained
emotions finally found their release
After crying her heart out and exhausting herself, Natalie got into Benjamin’s car.
Benjamin handed her a handkerchief. A sharp gleam flickered in his eyes when he thought of Jason. “So, how d
you plan to deal with those bastards, Natalie?”
Just because Natalie kept quiet about it didn’t mean she didn’t have plans.
Once she had calmed down, she said, “The accident that took my sight was orchestrated by Sienna. I’ve already hired someone to find witnesses. Jason colluded with my doctors to steal my corneas. There will be proof of their wrongdoings somewhere–I’ll make sure they’re brought to justice.
Benjamin was furious, but he was also deeply pained by Natalie’s ordeal. He didn’t have the heart to scold her anymore. After a moment, he asked softly, “And the child you’re carrying… Are you planning to keep it?”
