Chapter 12
Just then, Mary knocked on the door. “Mr. Pereira, Mr. Jamison is here. He said he couldn’t reach you on the
phone.
Jason had felt his phone vibrate earlier, but he had been too angry to bother with anything else
When Jason said nothing, Mary did not know what to do. She didn’t dare to disturb Jason and Natalie further.
either
There was a pregnant pause before Jason dropped a kiss on Natalie’s forehead, looking every bit the doting husband. “Your birthday is coming up soon. What do you want as a gift? Think about it while I’m out
He then left
Once Natalie was sure that he was far away, she relaxed her tense posture.
She’d almost forgotten that her birthday was coming soon. And right after that… it would be time for her to
leave
Staring into the distance, Natalie mumbled, “I’ll make sure you remember this day forever, Jason Pereira.
A sneer curled her lips.
Jason and Chandler met in the study.
Chandler noticed Jason’s furrowed brows and dark expression, making him uneasy.
Did he argue with Natalie?
But knowing Natalie’s personality, having a real fight with her would be difficult
Chandler figured that it had to just be his imagination.
Like a good employee, Chandler quickly pushed aside his curiosity and reported, “Mr. Pereira, we received
reliable intel that Mossey Rockwell will arrive in Grendale next Monday.
Jason seemed distracted. He leaned against the windowsill and lit a cigarette. “Arrange a meeting with him no
matter what.
Chandler nodded. Then, he asked, “Should Ms. Spencer attend the meeting as well?”
Jason held the cigarette between his lips, seemingly deep in thought. After a long silence, he said, “We’ll see
I’ll depend on how her recovery goes
Chandler looked at Jason. Having worked with him for so many years, he knew him quite well.
He knew Jason’s true love was Sienna, but did he really have no feelings at all for Natalie, even after three years
of marriage?
Honestly, Chandler wanted to defend Natalie. She was a good person. If Jason continued neglecting her, he
would end up regretting it someday
Outside the study, Natalie stood by the door, holding a fray of food. She had overheard the entire conversation.
Mossey was one of the best painters in the world. Many artists would kill for a chance to learn from him, let alone be his apprentice–it was an unachievable dream for most.
It looked like Jason was eager to meet Mossey to help Sienna with her career.
Too bad that opportunity was not meant for Sienna.
Natalie suddenly had an idea–she could give Sienna a birthday gift she’d never forget for the rest of her life
She knocked and entered the study, cutting off Jason and Chandler’s conversation abruptly
Chandler glanced at Jason. “I’ll get going now, Mr. Pereira.”
Jason responded with a hum and turned his attention to Natalie. “Why are you serving us? Is Mary trying to quit
or something?”
“I wanted to bring you some fruit,” Natalie explained. “It’s got nothing to do with her
She had overheard Mary saying that she was going to prepare some fruit to bring to the study, so she
volunteered. She wanted to hear what Jason and Chandler were talking about
Jason ruffled her hair affectionately: “You’re too soft–hearted and easygoing. I’ve never seen an employer like
His tone was so warm that Natalie almost questioned whether the last two days had been a dream
Then again, the pain in her chest was very real Those scars weren’t just a dream.
Jason’s betrayal, Sienna’s vicious taunts
they had left wounds so deep on Natalie that the pain felt
suffocating Fear haunted her even in her sleep
The pain they brought her wasn’t just physical. The worst ones were wrought on her mental health
Natalie laughed softly, her voice laced with irony and a slight tremor when she said, “But compared to Sienna.
I’m vicious and evil, aren’t I?”
All tenderness vanished from Jason’s face abruptly. “There’s a limit to how much nonsense I can tolerate
Natalie. I suggest you don’t push past it.
With that, he stormed out of the room
Facing away from him, Natalie laughed
A limit? His limit was Sienna, wasn’t it?
She could do anything unless it involved Sienna, because Sienna was his only bottom line.
Sienna was untouchable
Taking a deep breath, Natalie closed her eyes and let her tears fall. When she opened them again, they were cold
as ice. She tossed the fruits into the trash.
The matter of Natalie’s assault on Sienna and the latter’s subsequent hospitalization was thus blown over
quietly. At least, Jason never brought it up again.
