Chapter 6
“Mr. Durran.” The pregnant woman who’d been shouting just moments ago suddenly stammered.
Whispers spread around about Frederick Durran.
The only son of the Durran family in Washington, D.C., he took over the family business at 25 and tripled its value in just three years.
Sharp and ruthless in business, he never gave an inch at the negotiation
table.
Even New York’s oldest, most respected families bowed to him, always addressing him respectfully.
But just a month ago, he shocked everyone by announcing he’d had a vasectomy, cutting off any hopes for arranged marriages linking powerful families.
Everyone thought he’d lost his mind.
If no heir comes, who will inherit the Durran family legacy?
Frederick shrugged off his jacket and scooped up my bloodied body in his
arms.
“Arrange a helicopter. We’re flying to Switzerland.” He spoke for the first time that day.
People around sprang into action.
Booking a plane, calling in medical teams, clearing the area quickly.

I was about to say something when Frederick leaned close and said quietly, “Heir of the Durran family, no care is ever too much.”
My eyes widened, my heart skipping a beat.
Suddenly, I remembered the text he’d sent earlier..
Saying that if I agreed, the child in my womb would be his only heir for life.
Every word was sincere.
Meanwhile. Ryan was trying to calm down a sobbing Rachel when he saw a message from the butler that made his heart skip too.
“Ms. Sarah is missing.”
Rachel pouted and whined.
“Ryan, how could you say those things earlier? About waiting for my baby to be born, then rushing to the courthouse to get the divorce papers. Are you really that eager to give Sarah a proper wedding?”
Ryan stayed silent.
He thought back to the birthday party seven days ago.
Sarah’s face had been pale, her eyes hollow as she watched Margareth’s keepsakes torn apart.
At that moment, he clearly saw the pain in her eyes.
But then Rachel suddenly “fell“, and he rushed over to help her, completely ignoring Sarah.
For seven whole days, he hadn’t reached out to her.

Every time he picked up the phone, Rachel’s words echoed in his mind.
“Sometimes you’ve got to let go a little to keep someone close. It’s time to give her some space so she knows how much she means to you.”
He thought Sarah would be the same as before.
Waiting for him to come back, coaxing her with sweet words, then happily throwing herself into his arms.
But now, she was gone.
No one knew where.
All her accounts were frozen. The mansion was empty.
Her assistant said she hadn’t been to the office in a long time, and even her closest friends couldn’t reach her.
“Since Jack married Evelyn and gave you the title of Evan Group’s second daughter, you’re officially part of the family now. Besides, all of Margareth’s assets are now under Evelyn’s control. You won’t be bullied
anymore.”
Ryan stared at Rachel, his voice steady and clear. “But what about Sarah? She has nothing left now. I’m going to marry her.”
Rachel’s face went pale, tears rushing down. “Ryan, it’s not about the money. I just can’t let you go.”
Ryan sneered.
“Can’t let me go? Then have Jack cancel the shareholder meeting in three days and return all of Mrs. Evan’s assets to Sarah.”
Rachel suddenly shut up, her fingers tightening around her dress without even realizing it.
