Chapter 9
The room erupted in shock.
Jack’s eyes went wide, lips trembling, but no words came out.
He was once the most powerful man in New York.
Now, he looked like a beaten–down old dog, slumped lifelessly in his
chair.
Frederick stood up and nodded at Lucas.
The secretary immediately dialed, and a massive sum was wired into my
account.
Then, right in front of everyone, Frederick dropped to one knee.
“Sarah, these are the Evan Group shares I just bought for you.
“From today, they belong to you.
“I vow to protect you and our child for the rest of my life.
“Please marry me.”
The whole room went silent.
After a moment, an uproar exploded.
People snapped photos and started live streams.
Trending topics blew up instantly.

From that day on, Frederick brought in his top legal team and swiftly sued Jack and Evelyn.
Every property, every bank account, and even their mother’s antique jewelry collection was seized one by one.
Every time Frederick came with me for a prenatal checkup, the show was more extravagant than before.
Private medical suites, concierge doctors, and entire wings were reserved for her prenatal care. Even the hospital staff whispered about her as the most pampered mother–to–be in New York.
New York buzzed with envy again, calling me the woman blessed by fate.
The old rumors, calling me the family outcast or the homewrecker, vanished without a trace.
That day, after finishing my checkup, I was stepping into a Lincoln when I heard a familiar voice call out, “Sarah!”
I paused for a moment but didn’t look back.
Then he shouted again, almost yelling, “Sarah!”
I slowly turned.
The once sharp and successful rising star of New York looked worn and
broken.
He had sunken eyes and a scruffy beard like he hadn’t slept well in ages.
Which made sense.
After Morgan Group lost the bid, several partners sued him, and the cash

flow had long since dried up.
He stumbled forward, ignoring his bodyguards‘ protests. He handed over a sealed envelope.
Inside was the ownership document for a private island in the Maldives.
His voice rough, he said, “Sarah, last year when I was teaching you to dive ten meters underwater, you suddenly took off your breathing mask and kissed me, nearly choking me.
“That night you insisted on night fishing, got your foot cut by coral. I carried you three kilometers back to the hotel. You laid on my back and said. Ryan, I want you to always spoil me like this.
“Last New Year’s Eve, you said we’d watch the northern and southern lights together. This New Year’s Eve…”
His voice caught.
Tears dropped onto the floor, and he no longer cared about keeping up his polished image.
“You said you wanted a child that looks like me.
“You probably forgot why I gave you the Heart of True Love. Because when we watched Titanic together, you pointed at the Heart of the Ocean and said you wanted a love token to pass down through generations. I flew to London overnight and waited three days straight at Ellington Auctions.
“I’ve cherished and protected you all these years, are you really ready to walk away from me?“–
