Chapter 9
Christopher said urgently, “Actually, we were married in our past life. We were happy–a model couple in everyone’s eyes. We even had a brilliant son. Later, he became a perfect SAT scorer, absolutely outstanding. Trust me, we can be happy together.”
His words instantly pulled me back to my previous life, reminding me of Dylan’s cold, heartless demeanor.
My heart ached again.
My own son Dylan had killed me with his own hands, and Dylan’s betrayal cut deeper than Christopher’s ever could.
Because Dylan had been frail and sickly since childhood, I’d tried every possible way to nurse him back to health, always protecting him.
After starting school, Dylan was mischievous and couldn’t keep up with his studies.
I carefully studied everything myself and taught him bit by bit, eventually helping him become that perfect SAT scorer.
Yet in Dylan’s eyes, I could never compare to Eleanor. He never even remembered my sacrifices.
Why would I want such a child?

I took a deep breath and looked coldly at Christopher: “Christopher, I remember our past life better than you do. When I had my heart attack, you didn’t take me to the hospital. Instead, you forced me to divorce and donate my corneas. After I died, no one claimed my body. I remember all of this clearly. As for your so–called son–an ungrateful wretch who abandoned his birth mother only disgusts me.”
Christopher was shocked into silence for a long moment before saying, “Natalie, you remember everything? So you never intended to marry me from the start? But since you know the truth, why did you help Eleanor in our past life? Why didn’t you tell me?”
I yanked my hand away from his and said coldly, “I willingly gave everything to Eleanor for your sake and the Morris family’s. But I misjudged people and trusted the wrong ones.”
Christopher completely panicked, choking up in front of my spaghetti: “Natalie, you’re the one I’ve always loved. Because Eleanor said in our past life that she loved me and never married anyone for my sake, I couldn’t bear to see her suffer alone because of me.”
I couldn’t help but scoff: “Who would believe you? You don’t
love me, and you don’t love Eleanor either. You only love
whoever you can’t have. In our past life, you couldn’t have Eleanor. In this life, the one you can’t have is me. You deserve to be alone forever. You should reflect on yourself.”

After saying this, I left decisively.
Behind me, Christopher’s voice rang out again, filled with despair and pain: “Natalie, how can you abandon me? Everyone in Washington knows about your feelings for me. Besides me, who else would marry you? Wouldn’t marrying me be good for you?”
I stopped, turned around, and looked at Christopher: “Then I can stay unmarried for life. All of the Morris family’s wealth is mine. I can continue developing in business and create my own value. Isn’t living authentically more meaningful than marriage?”
Christopher’s face turned pale.

In this world, everyone seems to define women solely by marriage, believing their only value lies in getting married and having children.
But how are women any less capable than men?
I didn’t look back again and left directly.

anyone else’s.
Afterward, I received news about Christopher.
After the birthday party incident spread, his reputation in
Washington was completely ruined, and no woman was willing to marry him.
Feeling he was an embarrassment, the Edwards family quickly sent him abroad.
From then on, I never heard from him again.
On this day, the weather in Washington was beautiful, with brilliant sunshine.
I seemed to see my past–life self standing not far away, watching me as if celebrating my rebirth.
The End.
