“But what about Mom’s cosmetics?”
“Let’s eat first, and we can go back to buy it later.”
“Okay, I’ll do that!”

The little foodie thought for a moment before finally agreeing. After all, satisfying her hunger was more important than anything else for a true foodie.
Instead of going to an ordinary restaurant, Thomas took Starling to his usual seven–star Sail Hotel.
“Mr. Lange, welcome back!”
The hotel’s VIP secretary was already at the entrance, greeting him with a polite bow. “Mr. Lange, it’s great to have you back! What time would you prefer for dinner? Would you like to eat in the restaurant or have the meal brought to your room?”
Thomas looked down at the child beside him, noticing she seemed a little weary. “Have it delivered to my room. A meal for two, and make sure the restaurant knows one of the meals is for a child–fewer ingredients and no spice.”
“Understood,” the secretary replied, her eyes finally landing on Starling. A look of surprise crossed her face. “Mr. Lange, I thought you weren’t married! Your child is already this grown up! What a beautiful girl …
“Hello!”

Star looked up quickly and cheerfully greeted her.
“Oh, what a well–behaved little darling,” the secretary said with delight.
Thomas calmly responded, “This isn’t my daughter. She got separated from her mother, so I brought her here for now. After dinner, I’ll take her back to her mom.”
The secretary looked closely at Starling, raising an eyebrow. “She’s not your child? But why does she look so much like you?”

As they waited for the meal in the presidential suite’s main hall, Thomas relaxed on the sofa, taking a short rest. The little girl, like a clingy ball of fluff, nestled in his arms, her eyes glued to the cartoon playing on the TV.
This warm, yet somewhat unfamiliar moment, was something Thomas never anticipated.
He had always believed he wasn’t fond of children, finding them noisy and a hassle. Yet here he was, getting along so effortlessly with a little stranger that even he was surprised.
Maybe this was what people meant by fate.
“I’m sleepy…” the little girl murmured.
The little one whispered sleepily in his arms, her eyes starting to close on their own.
“Go ahead and rest for a bit. When the food arrives, I’ll wake you up,” Thomas said, reaching for the blanket beside the bed and carefully draping it over both of them.
“Don’t forget to wake me up. I’m hungry…”
Thomas was speechless.
This little foodie!
Thomas couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
The little girl, curled up in his arms, turned over and snuggled her delicate face into his chest, mumbling sleepily, “Daddy … ”
For a moment, Thomas was taken by surprise, a soft, unfamiliar ache tugging at his heart as if -it had dropped all at once.
It appeared that the little one missed her father so much that she instinctively began to see him as a father figure.
At the hospital, after Rosalie had finished attending to the patients from the car accident, she finally found a moment to check her phone.
What she saw left her stunned.

There were dozens of missed calls, the majority coming from the kindergarten.
A surge of panic gripped her heart.
Something must have happened to Star!
With a nervous hand, she dialed the number back, her fingers shaking uncontrollably.
Please, answer the phone …
After several rings, someone finally picked up on the other end.
