Chapter 8
Davin dropped me off after the party. Right after he left, a figure abruptly emerged from
the shadows.
I stared at the uninvited guest indifferently and said, “Tanner, enough already. You know I’m engaged, so what are you doing here? Let me remind you once again–we’ve broken up.”
Tanner’s eyes were red as he uttered through gritted teeth, “I won’t let you do this to me, Katherine. You lied to me. How dare you break up with me?”
I looked at him, confused. “What did I lie about? Why do you keep acting like I hurt you?”
He went on angrily, “If you had told me earlier that you were the heiress of Leigh Group, I never would’ve believed it when Willow said that you were some promiscuous woman, that you only closed deals by drinking and sleeping with clients! Things between us wouldn’t have turned out like this!”
I rolled my eyes. “Tanner, do you believe whatever Willow says? Are you a child? Listen carefully. Every single deal I closed was based on my capabilities. It had nothing to do with my family! You cheated on me, and now you’re blaming it all on me? Don’t you feel even a
little shame?”
Tanner’s face darkened as he stared at me. He said through gritted teeth, “I don’t care. I won’t agree to breaking up! It was just one mistake. Why can’t you forgive me? Ask around and you’ll know it’s common for CEOs to have multiple lovers. Compared to them, I’m
pretty restrained!”
I honestly wondered if I’d misheard him. How could someone be this shameless?
I was too stunned to even speak.
Seeing that I wasn’t responding, Tanner thought he still had a chance. He stepped closer and began coaxing me in a soft voice.

“Kathy, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me. I really do love you. Without you around these past few days, I’ve felt so empty. I swear I’ll never look at another woman again. Just say yes and marry me, okay? My mom’s at home waiting for you. She’s waiting for us to have a baby.”
Just as I was figuring out how to cuss him out, Dad’s voice suddenly rang out from the
courtyard.
“Get the hell out of here!”
He came charging over from the inner gate, wielding a big iron shovel, and started hitting
Tanner with it. Dad smacked Tanner’s back as he cursed.
“You scumbag! How dare you come looking for my daughter? I’ll beat you to death! I’ll
never agree to you two getting married! Get lost! Get lost!”
hopped around trying to dodge the hits. At first, he begged and tried to explain
but he couldn’t take it for long and ended up running away.
left, Dad stood there holding the shovel and looked at me with a stern face.
I want to marry that guy? Haven’t you learned your lesson yet?”
ed wryly, took the shovel from him, and replied carefully, “Of course not. I don’t even him anymore.”
ad shot me a glare. “Davin’s a good guy. Don’t you dare hurt him.”
I quickly nodded and reassured him a few times before finally getting him to go back inside.
