Chapter 10
“You’d better explain what this contract is about!”
Dad slammed the contract that Davin and I had signed onto the table, his hand trembling as he pointed at me.
I kept my head down, too afraid to speak.
After Willow was taken away for questioning, everything came to light, including the marriage contract I had with Davin.
When I didn’t respond, Dad fumed and threw his teacup across the room.
I shut my eyes and braced myself for the impact, but a broad body stepped in front of me. I looked up into Davin’s concerned eyes. He gently patted my head, wordlessly telling me not
to be afraid.
Then, he knelt before Dad with his head covered in tea leaves and explained, “This is my
fault. I was the one who suggested we sign the contract. At the time, I was afraid Kathy
wouldn’t accept me, so I used the excuse of saving her to make her marry me. But I truly care about Kathy. Please, let me marry her.”
He then sincerely bowed to my parents.
I stared at him in shock. Mom nudged my arm, and when I looked at her, she gave me a subtle look. I immediately caught on and dropped to my knees with a loud thud.
The room went silent for a moment.
Davin reached out to feel my knees, asking worriedly, “Does it hurt?”
I didn’t have time to answer him. Instead, I looked at my parents and bowed deeply. “Mom, Dad, I’m willing to marry Davin.”
Dad snapped back to reality, looking utterly confused.

“You want to marry her?” he asked.
Davin nodded without hesitation.
“And you want to marry him?”
I nodded vigorously.
“And the wedding?”
Davin immediately answered, “I’ll plan a bigger, more extravagant wedding.”

Dad suddenly clapped his hands and laughed heartily. “Great! That sounds good to me!”
I hadn’t fully processed everything from that day until Davin led me to the house we had bought.
“Davin, if you’re going to hold me, then just hold me. Why are you taking me to bed?”
I squirmed, my face flushing with embarrassment.
Davin wrapped me tightly in his arms, rested his head on my shoulder, and said wearily, “Kathy, let me hold you for a bit. I’m so tired.”
I whispered that I wasn’t ready for more.
He kissed the shell of my ear and gradually drifted off to sleep.
The knife wound Willow inflicted was deep, and Tanner was bedridden for two months.
With concrete evidence of her drugging me and hurting Tanner, Willow was sentenced to
prison.
Tanner, on the other hand, hired a lawyer and claimed he wasn’t aware that the drink had been spiked. Since there was no solid proof, he managed to avoid any charges.

But when John learned that Tanner had lost his connection to Leigh Group and offended
Davin to boot, he withdrew his investments immediately. All the clients I worked with
previously also pulled their contracts, and after Tanner settled his lawsuits, he went
bankrupt.
Rowan spent every day at home, crying and cursing him for being blind and losing a good
woman just to be with someone who brought nothing but trouble.
A few years later, after I had won my third life achievement award, something shocking
happened.
When Willow was released from prison, she ran over Tanner with a car and drove into the
sea.
Neither of them was ever seen again. To this day, their life and death remained a mystery.
