Chapter11
“See? You need an invitation to get in,” Elise said, flashing her invitation and letting Catalina go first.
Catalina carefully held up her pink dress, walking in with her head held high like a princess.
“Sorry, your invitation is for the staff entrance only.” The doorman stopped Catalina.
Catalina was embarrassed, but Elise and Ally came to her rescue. “Catalina is a VelvetRose employee anyway!”
“Exactly! At least we can use the staff entrance, which is more than that girl over there can do!”
Finally, the three of them moved aside, and Jennifer walked back to the VIP entrance. She took out an envelope from her purse and handed it to the doorman.
The doorman’s eyes lit up, and he smiled even more nicely.
“Ms. Griffin, this way, please.‘
To the shock of Catalina and the others, Jennifer walked into the hall through the VIP entrance,
Catalina wanted to wait for Brayan and take the VIP entrance. didn’t have an invitation, but with his name and face, getting in wouldn’t be a problem.

Inside, Catalina glanced around, but Jennifer was nowhere to be seen.
Elise and Ally started talking. “Jennifer is here? I bet she’s here to make a delivery. No way that she’s invited.”
“Yeah, she didn’t even finish college. Why would VelvetRose invite her?”
Their words gave Catalina some reassurance. They had a point. Velvet Rose was a top luxury brand, and this party was celebrating the success of the Melody Series – a jewelry line launched four years ago. The perfect blend of creativity, aesthetics, and patented cutting–edge techniques had earned a strong reputation among experts while staying a top seller with everyday customers ever since.
“I wonder if we’ll get to see the genius behind the Melody Series tonight…” Catalina’s wide eyes lit up with admiration.
“I heard no one even knows who it is. Like, not even if it’s a guy or a woman,” Ally said.
“Catalina, you work for VelvetRose now. Got any inside info?” Elise asked.
Catalina shook her head, disappointed. “Nope. All I know is they go by B.Y. Even my senior has no idea.”
Upstairs, in a private room, Jennifer met with Peter Cruz, one of VelvetRose’s founders and its current executive director.
“It’s been three years. You’re even more beautiful now,” Peterd, handing her a cup of coffee.
Jennifer knew he was just being polite.

just made her look older and drained.
Worst of all, her husband never loved her.
Being stuck in a loveless marriage left a woman with nothing but exhaustion.
And Jennifer’s story was even crueler.
She gave everything, only to watch Brayan betray her. He even killed their baby for that woman.
The thought of her lost baby made Jennifer tighten her grip on the coffee cup, her knuckles turning white.
“So? My brilliant, elusive B. Y., any chance you’ll come back to VelvetRose?”
Peter’s voice snapped her out of it. She looked up and met his eyes. That same hopeful look from four years ago was still there.
But now, he said come back.
The truth was that Jennifer had never worked at VelvetRose.
Jennifer met Peter in her first year at university. He had come to Nexford University looking for talented young designers and found her sitting alone, sketching jewelry inspired by piano keys.
