Jennifer grabbed a glass of liquor and downed it in one gulp.
The burn was searing, but it cleared her head.
She stared at the empty glass and suddenly realized something.
Tonight’s banquet had been going on for nearly two hours, but Brayan hadn’t touched any alcohol.
Jennifer figured Brayan’s stomach problems must have flared up.
They had been arguing over divorce these past few days, and she hadn’t brewed any herbal medicine that she used to prepare for him regularly. Brayan definitely hadn’t taken any either, because only she knew the exact prescription and the way to brew it.
“Brayan deserves this,” the thought flashed through Jennifer’s mind.
But she couldn’t bring herself to be that cruel.
Jennifer pulled out her phone and carefully typed out every detail of Brayan’s prescription. Before sending it, she hesitated about whether she should add something to make the message more natural, like explaining her behavior, or simply wishing him would get better.
She typed and deleted it again and again. In the end, Jennifer sent the prescription without adding a single extra word.
Brayan’s phone received the WhatsApp message, but he wasn’t the one who read it.
Catalina turned her back, silently memorized the content Jennifer had

sent, and then deleted the message.
Brayan was talking to others.
Even though he was here tonight as Catalina’s plus–one, plenty of people knew him, and socializing was inevitable. But he hadn’t touched any wine. It was all because of his intense stomach pain.
The pain also made his presence colder than usual as if everything about the banquet was putting him in a bad mood.
“Brayan…”
When the banquet was about to be over,-Brayan saw Catalina come over with a bowl of steaming medicinal soup.
The scent was familiar. But back when he and Catalina were dating, his stomach had been fine.
“How did you know I have stomach problems? And this medicine…” Brayan glanced over toward Jennifer.
“I know your health better than anyone. I got this prescription from an experienced herbalist. It’s guaranteed to work.”
The truth was that Catalina had asked Ally and Elise to buy the herbs based on the prescription from Jennifer. There wasn’t time to properly brew it, so they just mixed it with hot water. It would still help a little.
“It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t been so willful back then, you would’ve been taken better care of these years…” Catalina’s eyes turned red.
Jennifer smelled the medicine and turned her head, just in time to see Catalina leaning gently on Brayan’s shoulder and Brayan feeding her a piece of red velvet cake.

Jennifer had baked red velvet cake for Brayan countless times.
Due to his stomach problems, Brayan couldn’t eat anything spicy or anything too sweet.
Brayan had never been a fan of sweets, but red velvet cake was the one exception.
Jennifer had practiced over and over to get the flavor just right for his taste, but Brayan had never seemed satisfied.
Now she finally got it.
It was never the red velvet cake that he wasn’t satisfied with. It was her.
On the way home, Jennifer kept thinking about how she could finally divorce Brayan.
Before she could make any progress on that, something went wrong with her job at the Juvenile Detention Center.
“Your husband contacted us and had your start date rescheduled. I just wanted to confirm with you.”
Jennifer got a call from the Juvenile Detention Center when she reached the entrance of her building, and that was what she heard over the phone.
