Both men’s faces went white.
Lucas grabbed the driver by his collar, worry consuming him:“What? By who?”
“Some lawyer, I think!”
Only after the driver answered did Lucas release him, but now they had to start their search all over again.
Sophia’s hometown was nestled in a remote valley–a small mountain community surrounded by towering peaks.
Beautiful but isolated. Neither Lucas nor Nathan knew exactly where her family lived.
Her grandfather had moved them away generations ago. Finding her now would be nearly impossible.
The valley had four small towns scattered across the mountains. They had no clue which one.
Plus, it was a popular hiking destination now. Tourists everywhere made searching harder.
They drove in silence, reaching the area the next day, and at once to start asking around.
They brought in search teams, but even then, it took them nearly three months to find any trace of Sophia.
When they finally did, Sophia was sitting outside a wooden cabin, surrounded by elderly locals and children.
They formed a line, waiting patiently for her to see each patient.
Lucas and Nathan approached the woman bathed in mountain sunlight.
“Sophia…”
She looked up, confused, studying the two strangers.
She opened the mouth: “I’m sorry, do we know each other?”
