Hearing Nathan’s words, Sophia laughed bitterly. “Nathan, I’m not the one who threw our relationship away. You
did that first.”
At eighteen, he’d confessed to Summer behind her back.
After marriage, he brought different women home every night just to hurt her.
With that, Nathan couldn’t argue anymore. He stared down at his hands.
Then Lucas looked at her: “Fine, Nathan messed up first. But what about us? What about what we had?”
With Lucas, she’d been wrong. She’d abandoned a man who’d loved her completely.
So, Sophia’s chest tightened, she couldn’t answer anything except: “I’m sorry.”
But she’d tried to explain later, he just didn’t believe her.
And now he had Lily. Whatever they’d had was over.
Sorry? You think sorry fixes what you did to me?” Lucas stared at her, trembling, “Remember what you said when ‘ou dumped me?”
That’s five years ago, they’d been fine one second, then she’d cut him down the next.
le could still hear every word she said:
Lucas, you can’t give me what I want. You can’t even afford a bathroom in this city. What kind of future is that?
We’re over.”
With his words, Sophia looked away, unable to meet his eyes.
Even after five years, facing his anger still made her heart shake.
she’d been forced to leave him, but she’d still said those cruel things.
‘Look at me.” Lucas’s voice was raw with fury.
Sophia took a breath, turning back and opened the mouth:
‘Right. Sorry doesn’t erase the damage. But I already explained everything.” She paused, “Did you ever believe me? Lucas, while you were in pain, I was in pain too.”
She touched her stomach and continued:
Chapter 17
“I was carrying a baby here. I had to get rid of it myself.”
Just thinking about that child made Sophia’s heart bleed.
Back then, she’d dreamed of a family with Lucas, raising their baby together.
But she’d killed that dream herself.
Listening to her every word, Lucas felt his heart sink deeper.
He’d read about the baby in her blog, but hearing it again still felt unreal.
His fists clenched as he asked in a trembling voice: “Did it hurt?”
Sophia touched her chest: “Every time I remember.”
Late at night, she’d dream of a child crying for her.
“Mommy, it hurts so bad. Mommy, I was good–why didn’t you want me? What did I do wrong?”
She’d always run to the child and cried:
“You didn’t do anything wrong. Mommy was wrong. Mommy couldn’t protect you.”
But when she’d reach for the child, it would stare at her with pure hatred.
“You’re not my mommy! My mommy wouldn’t hurt me!”
She’d try to explain, but every excuse felt pathetic against what she’d done.
Lucas said quietly, “Yeah. Hurts every time I think about it too.”
Every memory of her breaking up with him five years ago still kept him awake at night.
All because of the man sitting across from him!
Lucas shot up and threw a punch at Nathan’s face.
“Nathan, you piece of shit!”
