Sophia ended the conversation and called out, “Yes, what’s wrong?”
A woman in her thirties stood at the door, panic across her face.
“Thank God you’re home! My son’s throwing up and has diarrhea. Can you come look at him?”
Sophia asked Margaret to watch Dad, then followed the woman outside.
‘What did he eat today?”
She gathered information as they walked.
The woman thought for a moment. “Nothing unusual–beef stew, rice, and some mushrooms.”
hat caught Sophia’s attention: “Were the mushrooms from yesterday?”
Yeah, leftovers from last night. He loves them, so I saved them.”
ophia’s expression darkened. “Food poisoning. Did you call 911?”
911? For a stomachache?”
he woman looked confused, “Kids get sick from eating too much all the time.”
ophia shook her head. “This isn’t a normal stomachache. He has food poisoning. You can’t eat mushrooms that have een sitting out overnight.”
But we’ve always eaten leftovers. Never had problems.”
ather than argue, Sophia pulled out her phone and called 911, having the woman give their address.
fter making the call, they hurried to the woman’s house.
he little boy, maybe five or six, lay weak and pale on his bed, looking awful.
fter examining him, Sophia said urgently: “Bring me salt water. He needs to drink it now.”
he mother ran to the kitchen and came back with a glass.
ophia stepped aside. “Help him drink this.”
he child was getting delirious. To prevent shock, he needed fluids to replace what he’d lost from vomiting.
Despite feeling terrible, the boy cooperated. With his mom’s help, he finished the whole glass.

Next, Sophia used a spoon to press on his tongue, inducing vomiting. The ambulance was coming, but every bit of poison they could get out beforehand would help.
The grandmother watched in distress. “Dr. Williams, maybe we can stop making him throw up, he’s just a baby–he
can’t take much more!”
Sophia felt for the family, but she didn’t stop.
Who knew when the ambulance would arrive? Every bit of contaminated food they got out brought him closer to
survival.
“Ma’am, for your grandson’s sake, I need you to stay calm. He ate something toxic. If we don’t get it out of his system, he could slip into a coma.”
Then Sophia wasn’t exaggerating. The child’s symptoms showed the toxins were already being absorbed.
If they reached lethal levels, even the God might not be able to help.
After a few more minutes of induced vomiting, the boy finally brought up quite a bit. Footsteps echoed outside.
His mother rushed to open the door for the paramedics.
“Where’s the food poisoning victim?”
