Chapter o Your Hypocrisy Is Absolutely Spine–Chilling
Kyle swiftly took off his suit jacket and crouched down to drape it over Mia Jones‘ exposed body.
Atia was wailing and screaming like the sky had fallen.
“Candice get the hell out!” Kyle roared, completely oblivious to how pale Candice looked.
Terry snappest out of his shock and rushed to support Candice, “Are you alright, Miss Hale?”
Candice clenched her teeth, her eyes glistening, “Kyle, you absolutely disgust me,”
She pushed Terry’s hand away. Even though she could barely stand, she insisted on walking out on her own.
Kyle felt a sharp ache in his chest. The look in her eyes just now–it was like that door would never open again.
He suddenly panicked.
Terry said anxiously, “She seems to have hurt her lower back. It looks serious.
Kyle’s expression darkened.
Remembering how harshly he had yanked her just moments ago, and thinking of the pain in her face at that instant, he
didn’t care how hysterical Mia Jones was being anymore–he got up and ran after Candice,
“Sophia, I want to end this early. I really… don’t want to see his face ever again.”
Candice was slumped in the corner of the elevator, speaking weakly into the phone, her voice choked with barely
suppressed sobs.
There was no way she could return to the project department in such a state. She forced herself to endure the pain and
drove straight to her new apartment.
Sophia immediately recognized the breakdown in her voice. Grabbing her bag and car keys, she headed out quickly “Where are you?”
Candice gave her an address.
“I’m coming right now.”
Sophia wasn’t just Candice’s divorce lawyer–she was also her childhood best friend. She knew her too well Candice might look gentle and delicate on the outside, but she had pride and steel in her bones. Ever since discovering Kyle’s affair, she had kept her composure, quietly preparing for the divorce without shedding a single tear in front of Sophia.

If she was crying now, she must’ve truly been shattered.
“That bastard Kyle!”
“I’ll wait for you.”

Candice hung up and leaned back against the elevator wall, eyes shut. Her long hair veiled her face, shielding her from
all light. Her thoughts seemed to sink into a deep, dark vortex, dragging her further and further down…
She didn’t know how much time had passed when-
“Are you done?”
In the silence so profound you could hear a pin drop, a cool, deep male voice cut through like a blade.
Candice’s eyes flew open. She turned her head in a panic.
She saw broad black shoulders and a long, pale neck–black and white in stark contrast, creating a cold, elegant tension.
Her gaze moved upward until it met a pair of icy, deep–set almond eyes.
“It’s you…‘
She recognized him and muttered to herself. Great, it was him again.
Charlie Clemens stared at her blankly. He looked like he was trying very hard to tolerate a migraine.
From the parking lot all the way here, she had followed behind him like a little tail. Then she’d parked herself in the elevator’s most important corner and refused to move.
He leaned in.
At 6’3“, he loomed like a mountain.
Candice instinctively raised her arm to block him. “What are you-
Before she could finish, a beautiful, slender hand landed lightly on her arm–palm facing out–and pushed her gently
aside to access the fingerprint scanner.
Candice: “…” ”
Only then did she snap out of her haze.
The elevator hadn’t moved… because she hadn’t pressed anything.
And she’d been blocking the scanner, so he couldn’t press anything either…

So awkward.
So unbelievably awkward.
The elevator finally started rising.
When it hit the fifth floor, she quietly pressed her own floor number and, at the same time, caught sight of his.
46th. The top floor.
She shifted to the side, trying to make herself invisible. The air between them was painfully strange.
Just then, a phone buzzed next to her.
Soon, a deep, cool voice drifted into her ear. “What is it? Hm? Measurements? Miss Hale asked for them…”

Candice’s neck creaked as she turned slowly toward him, now on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Her vision was
blurry.
She took a deep breath. “…Would now be a convenient time?”
Charlie Clemens remained expressionless.
Ding-
The elevator doors opened.
Candice fled like she’d been pardoned, half–limping out while clutching her lower back.
When Sophia arrived, Candice was lying on her stomach across the big bed in the master bedroom, calm now. Her
silhouette was beautiful in a fragile, broken sort of way.
“What happened?” Sophia crouched beside the bed and asked gently.
Candice gathered her thoughts.
The absurd scene in the elevator had distracted her, helping her shake off the emotional spiral. Now she was clearer-
headed.
She explained what had happened at the company in an eerily calm tone.
Sophia, however, was furious.
“You’re still technically working at Aureate Group, and he’s already bringing that tramp into the company, screwing

around in broad daylight–and he shoved you!”
“Is he so blinded by lust he doesn’t even care about appearances anymore?!”
“Candice, they’re openly provoking you now. Are you sure all you want is a divorce?”
Candice stirred.
She tried to roll over, but the sharp pain in her back made her freeze.

She gave up and stayed on her stomach. “You know why I’m doing this. It’s not because I’m afraid of him. I want him to
know–I left him. I dumped a man that’s filthy to the core. I won’t miss him for a second. He’s trash, and I’ll throw him away like trash.”
Sophia’s eyes were filled with pain.
She reached out to ruffle her hair. “Talk a big game, but look at the mess you’ve made of yourself.”
“I got emotional, okay?” Candice gave a bitter smile. “Give me another two weeks. Even if they get naked and go at it in
front of me, I swear I won’t even blink.”
“Aren’t you afraid you’ll go blind?”
“Animals mating. Worst case, I throw up.”
“That’s still bad for your stomach.”
Sophia stayed with her for a while longer. Then she went to the pharmacy to buy some medicated patches and applied
them to Candice’s back.
Outside, it had grown dark.
Kyle had searched everywhere Candice might go. He’d called every friend of hers, even visited her parents‘ home.
But still, no sign of her.
Sophia had been his first call. She said she didn’t know.
The second time he called, she didn’t pick up… By the tenth, Candice finally said, “Just answer it. He probably figured
out you left the office this afternoon.”
“That bastard. Now he’s worried?” Sophia picked up the phone on the balcony, not holding back in the slightest. “Kyle, isn’t this perfect? Now that Candice’s gone, no one’s stopping you and that cheap tramp from getting it on. What a happy ending!”

As soon as she said that, Kyle knew for sure they were together.
His voice was hoarse. “Let me talk to her.”
“She’s not available. Maybe she jumped into the ocean out of despair. Want to try fishing her out?”
Then she hung up on him.
Let him panic.
Kyle stood on the other end of the call, his face like a thundercloud.
The phone rang again.
Candice walked out. “I’ll take it.”
Sophia handed her the phone.
Candice picked up. “Stop bothering Sophia. I’ll come back eventually.”

There was a pause on the other end. Kyle’s breathing grew heavier. His voice was cautious. “Where are you? I’ll come
pick you up. How’s your back? Does it still hurt?”
“…Heh.” Candice laughed coldly. “Kyle, your pathetic act of concern–it makes my skin crawl.”
