There was another long silence on the other end of the line.
Kyle said, “It was the heat of the moment, I didn’t mean to…”
“No need to explain,” Candice cut him off, her voice laced with disgust. “Intentional or not, it doesn’t change the fact
that you laid a hand on me.”
“Fine, fine–it’s my fault, all my fault. Just tell me where you are. I need to know right now!”
“I told you–I’ll come back.”
“You have to come back tonight. If you don’t, I’ll tear Vanclyn apart to find you!”
Kyle’s temper was starting to spiral out of control.
Candice finally relented, saying she’d be home in an hour.
If he went completely off the rails, he really might do something reckless–she couldn’t risk exposing her new place.
On the way back, Sophia was the one driving her. “That bastard’s done so much to hurt you, and he still acts like he owns the place. That temper of his, that terrifying need for control… I swear, if he finds out you tricked him into signing the divorce papers, I’m scared he might actually strangle you.”
Candice gazed at the glittering lights in the distance and joked faintly, “Guess I’d better keep some arsenic handy–just
in case I need to poison him before he strangles me.”
Back at the house, as soon as she stepped inside the foyer, Kyle strode toward her, his expression tight with worry–and
barely concealed agitation.
Candice cast him a cool glance, changed into indoor slippers, and walked further in.
But bending over tugged at her injured waist, and pain instantly creased her brow
Kyle reached out to steady her.
“Don’t touch me!” Candice recoiled like his hand was filth. She didn’t care if it pulled at her injury–anything to avoid
contact.

He pulled his hand back, trailing behind her into the house, and handed her his phone, “I installed a surveillance system
in the office. You can check it anytime. What happened today–will never happen again.”
Candice blinked in surprise.
She had expected him to smooth things over like always. Instead, she glanced at the screen, thoughtful. “Scared I’ll
catch you off guard again like today, embarrass your candy girl?”
Kyle choked. “I told you there’s nothing between me and her.”
“Okay,” she replied, her tone biting. “So you admit you find her interesting and cute, but only see her as a little sister.
Right? And she joined the company because her father asked you to mentor her?”
“We’re about to sign a deal with the Valson Group next week,” he explained. “The Jones family made a small request–I couldn’t exactly say no.‘
What a convenient excuse.
Just a harmless little sister. Just business obligations. So it all made sense that he indulged her every whim and hurt his
own wife in the process.
How hypocritical he’d become.
Candice looked at him with scorn, her beautiful eyes fixed on him. Then she feigned realization, “Oh, I see. Just like a
sister. But didn’t she say you spent many nights together? A brother sleeping with his sister–that’s incest.”
“…She’s just a spoiled child who talks nonsense.”

Candice’s smile slowly returned.
Now she understood.
So long as she remained “Mrs. Jackson,” she was supposed to turn a blind eye to his growing appetite for pleasure.
But why should she play along?

Kyle helped her upstairs and called in a private doctor to examine her injury. Only after hearing it was nothing serious
did he finally relax
When Candice went into the bathroom, he tried to follow.
“I’ll help you.”
“…No need.”
If he dared touch her with hands that had been on another woman, she might really spike his coffee with poison.
Kyle sensed she still wasn’t letting him in. Though displeased, he knew better than to press tonight.
“I’ll be outside. If you need anything, call me.”
“Okay,”
She nodded and smiled sweetly.
No way. She’d rather die of pain than call him for help.
When she came out in her pajamas, Kyle was still standing outside.
The scent of her freshly showered body filled his nose–her skin dewy and flushed, shoulders bare, collarbones delicate.
Her slim waist swayed as she walked.
His gaze darkened.
She moved toward the bed and noticed his expression. “My waist hurts. If you’re thinking of doing anything tonight,

Kyle pulled her into his arms from behind, kissing her shoulder without giving her a chance to dodge. “I’ll be gentle…”

He turned and left without a word.
Candice had said she wasn’t going into the office the next day–and she meant it.
Instead, she invited her team out for a meal to announce her resignation.
Everyone was disappointed and reluctant to let her go.
The entire company knew she was the CEO’s girlfriend. Some had initially suspected she’d climbed the ladder through
connections, but one successful project after another proved otherwise. She understood both management and tech, and
she’d always been more invested in the company than even Kyle. Every time a project was secured, she was the happiest
person in the room.
Privately, people said she was set on becoming the rightful Mrs. Jackson.
And now she was leaving, just like that…
“I’m sorry, everyone. But due to personal reasons, I can’t stay at Aureate Group any longer. Keep working hard–and if you ever need anything, you can always reach out. And come visit me sometime, too.”
Candice raised a glass in toast.
The leader of Project Team 3 burst into tears–she had worked with Candice the longest and had the deepest bond.
With her gone, the heart of the team was gone too.
But they understood.
Everyone had heard about what happened–how Kyle had brought that little vixen from the Jones family into the company, and how just days ago, Candice had caught them making out in the office. Word was Mia Jones hadn’t even been wearing clothes.
Who wouldn’t feel betrayed?
It was a bittersweet meal.
