A faint, self–morking smile played on Niamh lipe, though inside she felt as if her heart were being twisted in knots.

“Miss Rivers!”
A voice called out behind her. Niamh turned, eyes widening in surprise
The woman approaching was the picture of elegance–blonde hair, blue ayen draped in designer labels from head to toe. She was unmistakably a society artw
Just moments before, Marina had been giddily showing off her pink diamond foral ring to her friends, only to watch Jonathan stride purposefully toward this unfamiliar woman..
“Ms. Westmore, it’s been too long. You’re as radiant as ever, Jonathan sa aking the initiative to greet her.
“It’s been a while, Mr. Thomas, Giselle Westmore replied, extending her hand for a polite handshake.
They exchanged a few pleasantries, though Giselle’s demeanor was cool, revealing nothing more than basic courtesy.
When Jonathan returned to Marina’s side, she couldn’t resist asking, “Jonathan, who was that lady?”
“That’s Giselle Westmore, only daughter of an oil magnate, and the wife of the head of the Lawson family–real estate giants here.”
Marina’s hand flew to her mouth in shock. No wonder Jonathan had gone out of his way to greet her.
In Jonathan’s mind, Giselle Westmore was known for her pride–nel

“Miss Rivers! I never expected to run into you here. Are you shopping for jewelry, too?”
Giselle’s eyes danced as she caught sight of a pendant displayed in a case all its own–the “Piano Queen.”
“Oh, I see! That’s the one you’ve had your eye on, isn’t it?”
Before Niamh could protest, Giselle had already swiped her card, purchased the necklace, and fastened it around Niamh’s neck herself.
The Piano Queen’s brilliant fire dazzled everyone in the room,
Marina could only watch, seething with jealousy, as the very piece she’d coveted–one that even Jonathan hadn’t been able to buy–now sparkled at Niamh’s throat. On the outside, she forced a serene expression, pretending nothing was
amiss.
Niamh was just as stunned.
“Mrs. Lawson, I-”
“You haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Let me treat you. What do you like to eat? I know a place you’ll love!” Giselle said, looping her arm through Niamh’s and whisking her toward the elevator.
Left behind, Marina and the others exchanged awkward glances.
“Looks like… ever since Niamh started working with Mr. Neville, she’s been meeting some pretty important people,” Marina murmured, sneaking a glance at Jonathan to gauge his reaction.
His handsome features were cold and unreadable, betraying neither anger nor any newfound admiration for Niamh.
Marina quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Let’s go eat,” she said, slipping her hand into Jonathan’s arm.
“Sure.” Jonathan and Marina led the way out, his icy demeanor unchanged.
By the time Niamh left the mall, the sky was completely dark, the city lights painting the night in vibrant color,
Tonight had turned out surprisingly well, in the strangest of ways.

The two had actually met three years ago. Giselle had always idolized the Grand Piano Collection’s designer, considering her a true inspiration. She also happened to be close friends with Peter, and as one of his most important clients, Peter had practically begged Niamh to meet her in person.
