The Huntress 1

Chapter 1

He agreed to bring me home to meet his

family and promised to “feed” me the night I

turned twenty and my powers awakened.

But on Christmas Eve, the night of my

awakening, he took off when his precious ex

called, leaving me high and dry.

While he was out there, wrapping his arm

around her waist and lighting fireworks to

make her happy, I was starving and

lightheaded.

I went out looking for him but ended up

collapsing into the arms of his neighbor.

“I’m so hungry… could you maybe give me

something to eat?” I sobbed, burying my face

in his chest, feeling his muscles tense up.

The next morning, I snuck out of his place, my

face flushed and my legs wobbly, after having

been thoroughly fed, while my boyfriend and

his ex stared at me, dumbfounded!

“Carter, please don’t go…”

I cried, my eyes red and swollen, clutching at

the leg of Carter’s jeans, begging him.

My succubus blood was awakening, my head

was spinning, and my body was screaming for something to eat.

But Carter just kicked my hand away. “Let go!”

“I barely get to come home, and Bethany just wanted me to help her with some fireworks.

Do you have to make everything so difficult?”

“Am I not even allowed to help out a friend

when I’m dating you?”

I whimpered, a sound that was both painful

and alluring.

Carter didn’t even turn back as he left to go

find his ex, Bethany.

He told me to wait for him, but waiting was

agony.

I struggled to my feet and stumbled out of

the house, desperate to find him.

That’s when I crashed into a broad, solid

chest.

“Mmm, smells good…”

It was the scent of food, a million times more

appealing than Carter.

I lost all reason and threw my arms around

the man’s neck.

The scent radiating off him started to get to

him too, his eyes turning a deep crimson.

く

I stood on my toes, pressing my body against

his.

I kissed him desperately, whimpering, “I’m so

hungry, please, can you feed me?”

His handsome brow furrowed slightly. “Carter

not feeding you?”

I was out of my mind with hunger, clinging to

him and whimpering, “So hungry… please…”

Without a word, he swept me up into his arms

and carried me across the hall, unlocking the

door directly opposite Carter’s.

In the heat of the moment, a thought flashed

through my mind about who he was.

く

Living right across from Carter? Could this be

his childhood best friend, the one he always

talked about, Jason Wilder?!

But clarity lasted only a second before I was

pulled back into the vortex.

The next morning, I fled from his apartment,

my face burning with shame.

As soon as I walked through Carter’s door, he

confronted me.

“Summer Lane! Where the hell were you last

night?”

“I told you to wait for me at home!”

I had waited, but I was just too damn hungry.

く

If Jason hadn’t been so generous and fed

me…

The thought brought a flush to my cheeks,

and my eyes grew even wider.

“I just went out to grab a bite to eat.”
