Cha Can You Really Reelst?
The other three in the levitt erre so shocked their eveballs netly popped out.
Sophia gick pulled Candies back
Tim and Jerry silently looked away, choosing selective blindness.
They didn’t see anything
Candice dropped her head, covered her face with one hand, and nibed her forehead anxiously her cheeks were burning hot.
The elevator dinged.
13th floor.
She was immensely grateful she hadn’t bought an apartment on the 23rd or 33rd floor. If this elevator ride had lasted any longer, she might have just turned to stone on the spot.
“Goodbye,” Sophia said politely as she yanked Candice out of the elevator, her high heels tapping rapidly like firecrackers.
The elevator doors slowly closed behind them.
Jerry and Jim both snuck a glance at Charlie at the same time.
He still looked aloof and composed, as if nothing had happened just moments ago. Except for the faint flush painting his
otherwise fair and striking face.
“Spill it. What exactly is going on between you and that big shot?”
As soon as they got inside, Sophia went full interrogator mode.
Candice was still recovering from the trauma of having just touched her boss’s thigh. “Get me a cardiac pill…”
“Don’t try to change the subject!”
Candice was on the verge of tears.
With no way out, she had no choice but to explain how she met Charlie and how she ended up as his secretary.
She hadn’t meant to keep it from Sophia–just that lately, the divorce had taken top priority. Every time they met, that was all they talked about. Everything else simply didn’t come up.
Sophia clicked her tongue in amazement. “Wow. All those coincidences and twists of fate… maybe it’s the work of the matchmaking god, pushing you toward your true soulmate.”
Candice was speechless.
“First, he would never be into me. Second, I don’t need a so–called soulmate in my life. And finally, our relationship is strictly professional. He needed a secretary, and I needed to get out of Kyle’s social circle. As the executive assistant to the president of Regalis Group, I can rebuild my professional network. That’s all there is to it.”
“You really think you can resist a man that hot?” Sophia teased.
She was half–joking. Deep down, she didn’t want her friend to close herself off completely from love.
But clearly, Candice had surgically removed her “romantic delusions.”
“Do you think Charlie’s the kind of man who would let me not resist him? Who would let me do whatever I want?”

“The last woman who lost control around him someone Jerry said he used to have feelings for–hadn’t seen him in ages and tried to hug him. He almost threw her out of the car.”
“If I so much as touch a single strand of his hair with impure intentions, he’d probably toss me in a river.”
She said this with utter seriousness.
Sophia was taken aback, then comforted her, “Don’t be so pessimistic. You just grabbed his thigh, and he didn’t do anything to you. Have some faith in your beauty.”
At the mention of “grabbing his thigh,” Candice’s face turned red again. “I didn’t grab his thigh! You pushed me forward so suddenly—if I hadn’t braced myself, my face would’ve been buried in his-” She couldn’t bring herself to say the last two words.
“Pfft–hahahahaha…!”
Sophia collapsed on the couch laughing.
Candice: ”
She rolled her eyes.
After laughing it off, Sophia was finally convinced that Candice and Charlie really didn’t have anything going on.
And it made sense. After eight years with Kyle–even if love had turned to hate and the divorce was final–it wasn’t so easy to pull someone entirely out of your heart.
With Sophia’s help, Candice finally managed to take a proper shower.
During her hospital stay, she hadn’t been allowed to get the wound wet, so the nurses had only wiped her down. Now, five days after the injury, the wound had closed, but she still couldn’t move around too much.
Sophia, after hearing the full story behind the injury, fretted aloud that maybe Candice was having an unlucky year. She insisted that once Candice was fully healed, they had to visit a temple, pray for peace, and get a protective charm.
That evening, Candice sat on the balcony watching the sunset.
Sophia had gone to a nearby market to buy groceries.
Buzz–buzz-
Candice’s phone rang on the small table beside her. It was an unknown number from Vanclyn.
She frowned.
She had thought she’d at least get two days of peace. It hadn’t even been three hours…
She hung up and blocked the number.
At the hospital, Kyle handed his phone back to Terry. “What’s the update on the apartment?”
Terry replied, “It’s done. She’s on the 13th floor. There’s a unit for sale on the 20th floor–paperwork’s finished. You can move in anytime.”
“Good. Well done.”
Kyle patted his shoulder.
He had given Terry the task the day he flew to Singapore.
There was no way he’d let Candice live in the same building as Charlie. But convincing her to come back wouldn’t be easy. For now, the best move was to buy an apartment in that same complex
Winning her back would be a long campaign. He needed patience. even if her current attitude was completely foreign to him.

Cries echoed from the hospital room.
Kyle entered.

Mia Jones sat on the hospital bed, cheeks red and swollen, lips bruised, looking pitiful with tears brimming in her eyes.
“Kyle…” she reached out and called softly.
“The doctor said you’re fine. Rest a bit more and you’ll be discharged,” Kyle said coldly, standing far from the bed.
Still, this was a step up from his earlier, venomous hatred–wanting to kill her, treating her like a poisonous snake,
Mia’s heart leapt.
She kept her hand extended. “Can I hug you one more time? Just one hug… I’m not asking for anything else. I just feel so sad thinking about having to go back to being your little sister.”
Then came the tears.
This act worked on most men.
And Kyle’s heart did soften.
He hesitated, but walked over to the bed.
The moment he was close, Mia leapt up and clung to him like a water snake–arms around his neck, legs around his waist.
“Mia Jones!”
Kyle was furious and tried to pry her off..
But Mia clung tighter, grinding her body against his lower abdomen, breathing heavily, her moans seductive in his ear. “Don’t push me away… your little sister is so empty without her lollipop… if you don’t believe me, touch me–I’m so ready for you…”
She kissed his neck, her hands roaming across his back.
“Stop it…”
Kyle warned her.
But his breath was already unsteady. His resistance started to falter
Sensing his hesitation, Mia got bolder, kneeling on the bed as she reached for his zipper…
“STOP!!”
Suddenly, Candice’s face appeared in his mind–her shattered expression as she burned their marriage certificate. That grief froze his entire body, as if doused in icy water.
He shoved Mia off him, yanked up his zipper, and stormed out.
Fled.
He practically ran out of the hospital room.
Mia pounded the bed in frustration.
She’d been so close.
If only he had slept with her again, he wouldn’t be able to leave her…

She had no choice but to tell Candice she needed to go home.
“I’ll be fine. I’ll order some takeout later. Go take care of Auntie.”
“Call me if anything happens.”
“Mm–hmm.”
Though she was reluctant, Sophia had to leave.
On her way downstairs, she bumped into Jerry coming down from the top floor. An idea popped into her head.”
“Candice’s injury is technically work–related, right? She’s got no one to help tonight, and since you’re just a floor up or down, can you keep an eye on her?”
Jerry: “No problem.”

Sephia was pleased by ferry’s quick agreement. “Thanks a lot.”
Ferry replied, “No need to thank me, I’ll let Jim know”
He immediately called him and passed along Sophia’s request.
Tim readily agreed on the other end of the line. After hanging up, he walked into the study. “Young Master, Miss Hale’s friend ran into Jerry in the elevator. She said no one’s looking after Miss Hale tonight and asked if we could help. ”
Charlie looked up from his computer screen.
A pair of sleek silver–rimmed glasses rested on his sharp, elegant nose. His deep–set, almond–shaped eyes carried a trace of doubt. “She asked three men to go take care of a woman who’s temporarily immobile?”
“Uh…
Jim froze tot a moment. He and Jerry hadn’t thought of it that way. Then, Young Master, what do you suggest?”
“Contact her first. Ask for her permission.”
“Got It,”
Jim nodded and called Candice right in front of Charlie. “Miss Hale, your friend asked us to look after you. Young Master wanted me to ask how you feel about it.”
Candice was dozing off in a lounge chair when her phone rang. She jerked upright.
Sophia, you backstabbing devil!
“My feelings?”
“Yes. Since we’re all men, Young Master was concerned you might mind. So, Miss Hale, do you?”
How was she supposed to object after that setup?
Trying to sound polite and tactful, Candice replied, “I don’t really mind, but… would it be too much trouble?”
“Not at all, not one bit! I just finished making some wild ginseng chicken soup. I’ll bring it over in a bit.”
“That soup’s for the CEO. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to drink it…”
“Then I’ll ask him to come down too. You can share it.”
Candice nearly dropped her phone. “No no no! Please don’t! Jim, actually just ordered takeout!”
Jim was instantly alarmed. “You’re still recovering! Takeout’s no good. You need nourishment. Tell you what, I’ll come down and help you upstairs, you and the Young Master can have dinner together. I’ll whip up a couple more dishes.”
“No! Absolutely not!”
“It’s settled then.”
Jim hung up.
Candice was paralyzed.
Meanwhile, in the study, Charlie looked at the grinning Jim and sighed. “You really have gotten more willful with age.”
