I snickered. “Not just that-after his head got caught, he probably got kicked by a donkey on his way out.”
We completely ignored Logan as we drove away in the Ferrari.
“My dear wife, how about we go on a honeymoon?” Nate suggested.
“Sounds good.”
My mind was a mess. Even though I knew Logan wasn’t someone worth spending my life with, it still hurt to end a relationship that had lasted so long.
Nate noticed my mood and spent the entire drive trying to cheer me up.
Meanwhile, I received more messages from Logan:
[How long are you going to keep this up? If you don’t stop, I’m really going to get angry!]
When I didn’t respond, he sent more:

[Fine, I admit I was wrong, okay? I won’t even ask for an apology from you about the police thing. Just bring the car back-I need it for work tomorrow.]
[I know I messed up by not showing up today, but it was unexpected. Who could have predicted Autumn would catch a cold today?]
[I should have called to let you know instead of making you go there for nothing. Tomorrow’s also a good day. Let’s go get our marriage license tomorrow. I promise I won’t be late.]
[Rayna, say something! Did you lose your voice?]
[I’m being the reasonable one here-can you stop this nonsense?]
[So this is how you want to play it? Fine, we’ll do this your way. I’m in no rush to get married anyway!]
Seeing him lose it made me smile.
By this point, I was already lying on a beach in the Maldives, enjoying the sunshine.
To hell with that jerk and his sidekick!
With my mood improved, I glanced at Nate beside me.
That’s when I noticed that besides his impressive pecs, he also had a perfect six-pack.
I’d never noticed when he was clothed, but his physique could rival any male model’s.
His face was equally stunning, and even his… well…
I was suddenly confused about how I ever fell for Logan when this prime specimen had been right next to me all along.
Nate caught me staring and grinned. “Honey, are you checking me out? Should we head back to the hotel?”
I quickly looked away, my ears burning.
“Puff! It’s not like I haven’t seen you naked before.”
“I’m quite different from when we were kids. Want another look?”
My face grew even hotter. “Can you be serious for once?”
“Why be serious with my own wife?”
Just then, my phone vibrated.
It was a voice recording from Autumn.
I played it on speaker, and we both heard her conversation with Logan:
“Logan, it’s just a small cold. You don’t need to take me to the hospital. Today’s your day to get your marriage license with Rayna-it would be bad if you’re late.”
“We can get the license anytime. How could I focus on that when you’re feeling unwell? Let’s get you to the hospital first and worry about the license another day.”
“But getting a marriage license is such a big deal. Won’t Rayna be upset if you don’t show up?”
“So what if she’s upset? I can always smooth things over later. Besides, she’s pregnant now-no one else will take her if I don’t marry her.”
“If I don’t marry her, she’ll be begging me on her knees.”
This was followed by laughter.
Nate immediately leaned closer, concerned. “You’re pregnant?”
“Yep, congratulations on becoming a dad! Happy?”
