Chapter 8

“Rayna, how could you marry someone else?!”

“Why couldn’t I? You gave our marital home to another woman and stood me up at the registry office-why shouldn’t I marry someone else?”

With that, I hooked my arm through Nate’s. “My current husband is better than you in every way. He’s more considerate, more handsome, wealthier, more capable, and most importantly-he’s better in bed!”

Logan grew increasingly angry as he listened. Just as he was about to argue back, Autumn came running over.

“Logan, you really are here! I’ve been calling you-why didn’t you answer? I was worried.”

When Logan saw Autumn, his usual good temper vanished.

“Why do you keep calling me? Do you actually have something important to say?”

Autumn was startled by his sudden hostility. “Logan, what’s wrong? You always liked me calling you!”

“Don’t make things up! I only told you to contact me if it was important. Why would you call otherwise?”

“Rayna, it’s not what you think between me and Autumn.”

“I don’t care what you two are. Oh, by the way, I paid for all the renovations in our former marital home. Since we’ve broken up, I can’t take the renovations back, so tomorrow I’ll send people to demolish everything.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll restore it to its original condition.”

Autumn couldn’t suppress her smile. “Sis Rayna, are you really breaking up with Logan? But what about your pregnancy? What will happen to the baby?”

“Mr. Sullivan, did you know Rayna is pregnant? You shouldn’t be a replacement father!”

Nate wasn’t about to indulge her. He immediately fired back:

“First, I know all about it. Second, my wife isn’t pregnant at all. Finally, whether I’m a ‘replacement’ or not isn’t your concern. Even if I were stepping in to raise someone else’s child, I’d do it gladly.”

Then he turned to Logan. “So this is your childhood sweetheart? She reeks of jealousy. And she looks so old-if she hadn’t spoken, I’d have thought your aunt came to visit.”

I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“Seriously, Autumn, stop with the ‘Sis Rayna’ act. I’ve told you I’m younger than you. Stop trying to act cute at your age-it’s embarrassing.”

Autumn’s face flared with anger, but with Nate present, she didn’t dare say anything.

Nate called his assistant to help pack my things while Logan stood watching with red-rimmed eyes.

“You’re still here? Enjoy watching people move that much?”

Logan ignored Nate’s sarcasm completely. He gazed at me with a deeply emotional expression:

“Rayna, why are you doing this to me? We were just one step away from happiness. We were about to get married-how can you be so heartless, throwing me away so easily?”

I scoffed. “Stop with the devoted act. Where was this devotion before?”

“Move. You’re in the way.” I just pushed him aside.

Autumn pulled at Logan’s arm. “Logan, let’s go. Rayna has changed her heart-she’s married now. Stop holding on.”

“Only I’ve been loyal to you. No matter how you treat me, I’ll always be by your side.”

I laughed coldly. “Yes, you’ve been quite loyal to him. Logan, take a look at our chat history-you should see what Autumn has been doing behind your back.”

Logan took my phone and scrolled through our conversations, then looked at Autumn in disbelief.

Autumn continued playing dumb.

“Logan, why are you looking at me like that? I’ve never contacted Rayna privately. These messages must be fake-don’t believe her!”

“Autumn, do you think I’m an idiot?”

“I always thought you were pure and kind. I never imagined you were playing mind games with me this whole time!”
