Chapter 9

Autumn finally dropped her act.

“Everything I did was for you! You care about me the most, yet you still wanted to marry Rayna!”

“I was just helping you recognize your true feelings-I didn’t want you to get married and regret it later!”

Logan was breathing heavily. “Who told you to get your hopes up? The only person I’ve ever wanted to marry is Rayna. She’s the only one I love!”

“If you two want to argue, do it somewhere else-not outside my door,” I interjected.

Nate stood with his hands on his hips. “I’ve been patient with you two for long enough. Throw them out!”

With that, the security guards escorted Logan and Autumn away, and finally, there was peace and quiet.

Afterward, I blocked all contact methods for both Logan and Autumn.

I thought I’d never have any contact with Logan again, but on my first day back at work, I received a large bouquet of roses.

There was a card attached that read, “To the one I love most.”

I assumed they were from Nate.

So I carried the flowers to his office. “Why did you send flowers to the office? Everyone saw-it was kind of embarrassing.”

Nate looked confused. “I didn’t send any flowers.”

He quickly realized what was happening. “Which bastard dares to send my wife roses? That’s a direct challenge to me, Nate Sullivan!”

“Maybe they were delivered to the wrong person,” I suggested.

So I tried to return the flowers, but couldn’t contact the sender.

Even the next day and the day after, I continued receiving red roses.

Nate completely lost it. “Which son of a bitch is openly pursuing my wife? I’m still very much alive!”

“Find out who it is-I need to catch this guy!”

Just as Nate sent people to investigate, someone came looking for me.

“Rayna, someone’s waiting for you downstairs.”

When I went down, I found Logan standing there.

“Rayna, did you receive the roses I sent you?”

“So they were from you?”

During our entire relationship, Logan had only given me roses once-and it was just a single flower.

I couldn’t believe I’d almost married such a stingy, incompetent man.

“What’s with that expression? Don’t you love roses? I sent you such a big bouquet-aren’t you happy?”

“Are you out of your mind, Logan? I’m married now and you’re sending me roses? Where was this when we were together?”

“Rayna, I know I failed you before. If you’ll give me another chance, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

“I know you still love me deep down. You only married Mr. Sullivan to get back at me.”

“You must have cooled down by now. I don’t care that you’ve been married-I’ll still treat you as well as before.”

I took a deep breath. “Stop dreaming. I stopped loving you a long time ago.”

“Don’t you have mirrors at home? Or at least a puddle to look at your reflection? How could you possibly compare to Nate?”

“But Rayna, I truly love you. I can’t live without you. You don’t know how I’ve been living since we broke up-I can’t sleep at night. I’ve lost twenty pounds-haven’t you noticed?”

“That’s not my problem. Let me know when you’re dead so I can attend your funeral.”

“Rayna, how can you be so heartless? We were together for so many years-don’t you have any lingering feelings at all?”

“Nope. I should thank you for not marrying me-it gave me the chance to find such a wonderful husband.”

As I said this, I suddenly felt nauseous and gagged.
