30-DAY 6

Chapter 6

My mom’s look made me calm down quickly.

With such a serious situation, where Jackson was right now wasn’t the most important thing.

What mattered more was whether his dad would make it through surgery.

A classmate who knew the situation tagged Morgan in the comments:

[@DEW We’re all classmates here. If you two want to date, you’ll have plenty of time for that.]

[But nobody knew he was with you, and his phone is off. His parents were worried he’d had an accident, so they rushed home and crashed on the way.]

[You shouldn’t keep preventing his family from contacting him, or there could be consequences nobody can fix!]

Soon, waves of onlookers flooded my profile.

[After following both sides, I can confirm that everything Subject #2 is saying matches the details Subject #1 was bragging about.]

[Before “Phone Off Guy” turned off his phone, his mom called him. Subject #1 claimed it was Subject #2 using a parent’s phone and then turning it off.]

[Then “Phone Off Guy’s” friend called Subject #1, but she claimed Subject #2 put him up to it. OMG, all the details line up!]

[Check my profile analyzing the timeline of the accident versus when these two confronted each other. I declare Subject #2 is telling the complete truth!!]

Just as I was feeling relieved, a call came in from an unknown number.

The female voice on the other end was furious.

“Are you trying to start an online mob against me?!”

“Ava, Jackson doesn’t like you anymore. He likes ME now! Are you still happily planning to go to college with him in Boston?

“Well, dream on! Jackson changed his application-he’s coming to Chicago with ME!”

Her voice echoed through the hallway from my phone’s speaker.

Jackson’s mom lunged forward, grabbed my phone, and shouted:

“Who are you? Tell Jackson to come back RIGHT NOW, or I swear I won’t let this go!”

Hospital staff quickly arrived, scolding us to keep quiet.

So my parents practically dragged Jackson’s mom behind the emergency exit door.

I spoke with venomous intensity:

“Morgan, you still don’t get it? This isn’t a joke. Jackson’s parents were in a serious car accident!”

Perhaps because of the commotion on our end, the line suddenly went silent.

Just when I thought she might have hung up, a shaky voice came through the line:

“Are you… serious?”
