Chapter 4
“You bought yourself a diamond ring just to force me to marry you? Are you really that desperate to get married, Sienna?”
I tried to speak, to explain. But I couldn’t get a word in as Ian didn’t care to listen.
“Eva slit her wrists because of this. Come to the hospital and apologize now!”
Before I could respond, the line was cut off. I stood frozen, my heart pounding with disbelief and rage.
I was still pissed off when my phone rang again seconds later. Without looking at the screen, I answered with fury rising in my throat.
“Come to the hospital right now and apologize to Eva.” Sebastian’s voice cut through, tight with barely contained anger. “If you don’t, not only will my brother refuse to marry you,
but I will never want you again either.’
I questioned, “Why do I have to choose between the two of you? Have either of you ever stopped to think that I might be marrying someone else?”
My grip on the phone tightened until my fingertips turned white, but my tone remained icy
calm.
Sebastian went silent for a moment before replying in a low voice, “Sienna… Do you know
Eva slit her wrists?”
I scoffed. One after another, they both came calling to tell me Eva had hurt herself as if it
fault. But what did it have to do with me? Did I hand her the blade? Did I force her
to slit her wrists?

I said calmly. “I’ve never loved you, Sebastian. Not in the past, not now, and not ever. Your threats mean absolutely nothing to me. And even if Eva is your girlfriend, so what? Your brother is wealthier and, frankly, more normal than you. What makes you think a rational woman would pick you over him?”

News of my resignation spread quickly in the office. My colleagues were sad to know I was
leaving.
“You’re leaving, Ms. Xenos?”
“What are we going to do without you? Eva doesn’t know how to do anything. She dumps
her work on the rest of us.”
“Exactly. If she didn’t have anything to do with Ian and Sebastian, she would’ve been fired long ago for all her mistakes…”
The words trailed off, and the speaker quickly covered their mouth as their eyes darted to me with guilt. Everyone could see that Eva was two-timing Ian and Sebastian-except the
brothers themselves.
I curled my fingers into fists. My nails were digging into my palm, but I didn’t feel a thing.
Eva was Ian’s unreachable dream from his darkest days-his first love. She was the woman he couldn’t have when he was poor and struggling. Now that he had it all, he was determined to give her everything—including my managerial position and the piano opportunity I had worked so hard for.
As for myself, I was nothing. I was just like a faint stain on the wall-dry and forgotten.
Sebastian had only used Eva to come between Ian and me. It worked. But along the way, he
had fallen for Eva too.
I blocked both their numbers, erasing these two men who had once meant everything to me from my life with a few taps on my phone. Then, I went home, back to the place I had long
left.
The moment I stepped through the door, Mom rushed over and pulled me into her arms.
“My darling… You’ve lost weight. You look thinner…”

Just those few words made me break into tears. “I’m sorry, Mom… I was wrong. I never should’ve run away with him and left you and Dad behind…”
“It’s okay. You’re home now. That’s all that matters.’
Dad stood nearby, clearing his throat as he always did when he was emotional. “It’s good that you’re back. Wash your hands. Dinner’s ready.”
“Okay.” I wiped my tears and smiled.
My parents hadn’t changed, and neither had their expectations for me. Coming home meant diving back into the family business, starting over, and learning to lead the
company.
And soon, I would marry Jasper Yael, the man chosen for me.
That evening, I accompanied Dad to a party. I didn’t expect to run into Ian and Eva there.
Ian stood tall with his chin raised high, watching me with cold, judgmental eyes like he was waiting for me to walk over. He really thought I still owed him an apology.
