Chapter 11 Why Are You Scared?
Pablo had always been a straight shooter, and he cared a lot about his good name. What Jayvon did was basically slapping him in the face.

Jayvon got hit with Pablo’s cane, and he dropped to his knees with a thud.
They kept going back and forth. Jayvon wouldn’t admit to anything with Jaslene and even tried to defend her.
That made Pablo even more furious.
It wasn’t the right time to talk about calling off the engagement, and Pablo hadn’t said anything clear about it. I didn’t want to get involved in their family stuff, so I said a couple of polite things and walked away.
I could still hear them arguing, and Pablo was steaming mad.
I felt great after exposing that cheating jerk. There was a bit of a sour feeling, but I shook it off quickly.
Jayvon wasn’t worth getting upset over.
I walked towards the front gate cheerfully. I spotted a black Cayenne parked by the roadside, right behind my car.
It didn’t look like Jayvon’s ride. Was someone visiting?
As I was wondering, I saw a familiar figure walk through the gate and head towards the hall.
He was dressed in black, with a lean and fit build and sharp, striking features. He had an air of detachment.
He was the very guy from last night!
Oh crap! Everything else was fine, but if Jayvon found out I spent the night with some random guy, he’d use it against
me!
Then I’d never get out of this engagement!
I instinctively looked around. Seeing nobody nearby, “I let out a small sigh of relief and walked up to the guy fast.
“How did you find me here? You think the money I gave you was too little? That doesn’t mean you can stalk me!
“Name your price. How much do you want to forget about last night and pretend it never happened?”
The guy
didn’t
say anything for a long time.
He frowned as soon as I started talking, and he looked kind of agitated.

I thought, “Uh–oh. Maybe it’s not about the money after all.”
I put some distance between us. I backed up a few steps under his angry stare. “Wait, you’re not here to mess with me because of Jaslene and Jayvon, are you? Tell me, what do you really want? Did they send you?”
I stared him down, but his frown got deeper.
“No one sent me,” he said, squinting his eyes and taking a step closer to me.
For some reason, I felt intimidated by him and couldn’t help but take a couple more steps back.
“Why are you scared?”
His deep, smooth voice hit me like a wave. I didn’t know if it was because I was scared, but my breathing got fast.
“I’m not.”
Even as I said it, I didn’t believe it myself.
He smirked and leaned in closer.
With that good–looking face right up close, I felt all hot and flustered, and my ears were burning up.
I swallowed hard. I was trying to prove something, but when we were a hair’s breadth apart, I slipped a little and stumbled.
“Don’t you dare come any closer! I’ll scream if you do!”
The guy scoffed. “You didn’t seem so scared last night when you were all over me. Ms. Lucero, you sure are a flip- flopper.”
“I was drunk!”
I was mad and embarrassed, but
heart sank a bit.
I couldn’t remember what I had said to him last night. But my bag had all my IDs, so it made sense that he knew my
name.
