Chapter 12
The driver looked up to see a tall man standing outside. He lowered the window.
The stranger didn’t address the driver. Instead, his gaze locked on Georgia inside the vehicle.
“Miss Cooper, please step out,” he said flatly.

Georgia’s face drained of all color. She hunched forward, hiding her face between her knees, pretending not to hear.
The man turned to the driver. “Open the door, please.”
His tone was polite yet rigid, the kind of politeness that brooked no argument.
Georgia shouted, desperation and panic coloring her voice, “Don’t open the door!”
Suddenly–CRASH.
The window shattered, glass exploding into tiny shards that glittered in the streetlight.
The noise startled both Georgia and the driver.
“What the hell are you doing? I’m calling the police!” the driver yelled, horrified. The man had smashed the window with his
bare hand.
“Open the door,” the stranger repeated, voice ice–cold.
The driver tensed, wary.
The man produced a thick wad of cash and tossed it onto the driver’s lap.
The driver glanced down, eyes wide at the sum.
After a beat, he nodded curtly. “Fine.”
He unlocked the door.
The driver’s disdain for Georgia was clear as he spat, “Get out, you bitch!”
He slapped her hard across the face.
Luca, Preston’s fiercest enforcer, happened to witness the scene.
“How dare he! He’s only human and he’s hitting our mate? Preston, you coward, letting a human treat our mate this way!” Luca yelled, voice frenzied.
Preston’s eyes hardened, icy with fury.
With a silent command, his men sprang into action.
A werewolf seized the driver by the collar and punched him mercilessly. The man flew backward, landing with a heavy thud, his face swelling.
The driver collapsed unconscious.
Georgia’s face drained completely of color.
Preston lingered two or three meters away, illuminated by the streetlamp as he lit a cigarette and took a slow drag. The curling smoke masked his sharp features.
Georgia strained to see his expression in the dim light. Then Preston beckoned her with a crooked finger.
She didn’t want to obey, but fear robbed her of choice. Her legs betrayed her as she climbed out of the car and trudged toward him.
Preston’s gaze swept over her legs and then settled on her face.
With a cruel smirk, he taunted, “Enjoying yourself, Miss Cooper? Why waste time?”
Her breath caught, and she pinched her thigh, a silent reminder that she hadn’t been stalling deliberately.

She clung to hope that was just a cruel lie.
But the truth was undeniable…
