Chapter 10
After dealing with my sister and mom. I went back home to deal with Mark’s cheating ass
The second he saw my face, he dropped to his knees and started slapping himself hard,
“Tm so sorry. Rebecca. She came onto me, I swear. I know I fucked up–I was thinking with my dick. She messed with my head.”
“I still love you I love our family. Please, can you forgive me? I swear it’ll never happen again.
I grabbed his chin, smiling down at him.
Then I slapped him across the face so hard my hand hurt.
“Don’t bullshit me. Garbage men like you don’t get to talk about love.”
“She was my fucking sister. How could you even touch her?”
“Mark, don’t push me. If you don’t want me to completely ruin your life, just shut up and sign these divorce papers.”
“And don’t forget–I’ve still got copies of that video I gave the cops.”
I leaned in and whispered the truth in his ear. One word from me and his face went totally dead white. The color drained from his lips like someone had just sucked the life out of him.
He stumbled back and fell onto the couch looking like he’d seen a ghost.
“Rebecca, we were so happy before. We busted our asses to build this family. Why are you being so cold about this?”
I almost laughed in his face but held it in.
“Why? Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that? I thought we had the perfect family too. Who knew our so–called perfect home would get trashed by a pig like you?”
“Just sign the damn papers. Every second I have to look at your face makes me want to puke.”
Mark stared at me, pen shaking in his hand. Finally, his face crumpled as he scribbled his signature.
Our daughter would stay with me, and we’d split our stuff fifty–fifty.
Real life isn’t like the movies–you can’t always leave cheaters with nothing. Getting my daughter and half our stuff was the best I could get, and I was fine with that.
A month later, we made the divorce official.
I didn’t lie to our daughter about the divorce. Since she was only 5, I just told her the basics, figuring I’d tell her the whole story when she got older.

The same day we finalized everything, I booked tickets to get the hell out of this city.
Before leaving I dropped by to see my younger sister.
She wasn’t her usual bitchy self–just kept her head down and nervously called me “Sis.”
I smiled at her and said, “When Mom gets out, you better take care of her. After all, you’re the only daughter she’s got left now.”
My sister froze. “Sis, what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what it sounds like,” I shot back.
Then I grabbed a cab and headed straight to the airport with my daughter.
I knew that after our divorce, Mark would probably find some other woman, marry her, and have more kids.
I couldn’t change that–that’s just how it goes.
All I could do was take my kid and walk toward our own future–to live in peace and never look back.
