Chapter 2: My New Alpha Husband

Soleno’s POV

The moment the banquet started winding down, Alexander- yes, the man who shares the same name as the infamous Lycan King of Lunar Crest Pack-walked toward me, oozing that dangerous, rough-around-the-edges charm.

His scent hit me first-pine and sun-dried grass, mixed with the faint musk of someone who’d clearly traveled far.

“I’ll go get the car,” he murmured, dripping with something dark. His golden-brown eyes practically pinned me to the floor.

I nodded, breath hitching. “I… I’ll grab my things. Meet you out

front.”

He smirked-God, that smirk-then turned, swaggering away like he owned the damn world.

And just when I thought the night couldn’t get any messier…

The front doors slammed open.

In came Ava Lancaster and Grayson Lancaster-Jaxon’s parents -storming in like a hurricane about to rip me apart.

She didn’t hesitate. Didn’t think twice. Her palm flew through

the air-SMACK!-landing square across my face.

Gasps echoed around the room. Heads whipped in our direction.

“You disgusting little stray,” Ava hissed, her voice venomous. “How dare you-how dare you-sign a mating contract with another wolf at Jaxon’s mating ceremony? You’ve embarrassed us! You’ve humiliated our family name!”

Grayson grabbed her arm, pulling her back. But not out of pity—oh no. It was all for show. His face was the definition of icy composure, but his eyes burned with the same fury. “Ava, control yourself. There are still guests watching.”

Grayson’s lip curled. “Selene Brooks, you are a disgrace. You are no longer welcome in this pack. You will never step foot on Lancaster territory again.”

I tasted blood on my tongue-whether from the slap or the humiliation, I wasn’t sure. My fingers trembled as I pressed them to my throbbing cheek.

But then… I laughed.

“Good,” I sneered. “Because the last thing I want… is to belong to a family full of snakes.”

“But you know what?” I said, flashing Ava a sharp smile. “My

new mate… is also a Lancaster.”

“What?!” Ava’s face drained of color.

Grayson narrowed his eyes. “Which Lancaster?”

I didn’t answer. I simply turned on my heels and walked away-my silence said enough.

Outside, I spotted the car waiting by the curb. Still in my dress, I stepped toward it. My new Alpha husband, Alexander Lancaster, was already there, holding the car door open for me like a perfect gentleman.

It was… a Volkswagen. An older model. A little outdated.

I shook my head, stiffening. I wasn’t used to showing weakness to anyone -especially not to someone I barely

knew, even if he was my mate now. “It’s nothing,” I whispered. “It won’t happen again.”

He stilled. For a moment, the air was painfully silent. Then I felt it-the subtle, simmering rage rolling off him like the calm before a violent storm.

“You’re right,” he said quietly, dangerously. “It won’t happen again.”

A small smile tugged at my lips as I finally slid into the car.

Next stop… my house. My former house.

Without hesitation, I grabbed the excess fabric and ripped off the cumbersome train entirely. Then, straightening up, I turned my gaze toward the tightly shut doors of the Brooks estate.

“Do you want me to go in with you?”

I had barely spoken a word during the drive, completely ignoring my silent chauffeur. It wasn’t until now that I

remembered I wasn’t alone.

Looking at the man I had just formed a temporary mate bond with, I found myself at a loss for words. He was undeniably handsome, but at this moment, he felt like nothing more than a stranger to me.

Feeling a bit awkward, I touched the tip of

pulled out a card and handed it to me.

“This is for you.”

A deep green card, held between his long, strong fingers.

I blinked, raising a brow. “What’s this supposed to mean?”

Was he giving me a bank card? Did he think I married him for money?

Alexander’s expression remained

indifferent. “I have some matters to take

care of, so I won’t be able to wait here for

you.”

His tone was casual, as if he were simply stating a fact.

his role-as if I truly was the lady of the

house.

My new husband was adapting a little too well.

But…

I didn’t like this. I had never planned to rely on him financially. Right now, I knew almost nothing about Alexander Lancaster, except for the car he drove. His pack didn’t seem wealthy, and his territory wasn’t vast-otherwise, why would he choose to remain in the Free Lands? His family probably wasn’t that well-off.

All the more reason not to let him

shoulder my expenses, especially since he

responsibility.”

Responsibility…

Hearing him say it in that steady, emotionless tone made something feel oddly off.

I burst out laughing, the weight in my chest lifting a little.

“Of course I’m serious, but…”

I still wanted to refuse.

But before I could, he stepped closer, grasping my wrist with a firm yet gentle touch. I expected pressure, but he didn’t tighten his grip. Instead, he simply pressed the card back into my hand.

His deep voice carried a weight that was hard to ignore.

Before I could respond, he added, “It’s not much. I’d just like you to keep it, okay?”

The edge of the card left a faint white mark in my palm as I instinctively tightened my fingers around it. I looked at him seriously. “But I should take responsibility too, shouldn’t I?”

Alexander let out a soft chuckle, his voice smooth. “Then think of it as me wanting to take care of you. Don’t refuse.”.

He was insistent.

I sighed in defeat. “Fine. I’ll hold onto it

for now.”

out, “See you later.”

The words felt strangely out of place, like I was eager to see him again.

Alexander’s lips curled into a small smirk.

“Yeah. See you later.”

I watched as his car disappeared into the distance before finally turning toward the Brooks estate.

Standing at the door, I took a deep breath.

But instead of relief, my parents’ cold voices echoed in my mind from our last phone call.

My fingers hesitated on the door handle.

Without thinking, I followed the voice.

Then, I stopped.

Cold washed over me, freezing me from head to toe-like I had just been plunged into ice water.
