Chapter 6: Does Alexander Lancaster Have a Problem?
Selene’s POV
Chloe Parker hurriedly spoke up, “Selene, it’s my fault. Don’t provoke Jaxon. Please, just put your luggage down…”
She was still playing the innocent act, pretending to be soft and fragile. She was like a toxic parasite-once she latched on, she wouldn’t let go.
“Who dared to mark you? Who is it?” Jaxon Lancaster asked, his fingers trembling with rage as he forced the words through his teeth.
“Who dared to bond with you? Everyone in the town knows you belong to me.”
“Doesn’t concern you. Fuck off!” I snapped back, slamming the door of the
mansion.
I didn’t even look back as I stormed out.
Dragging my suitcase, I walked through the werewolf community.
As I passed by, some people glanced at me, then whispered among themselves.
“Is that Selene Brooks? I heard she was abandoned by Jaxon Lancaster at the marking ceremony and switched mates on the spot.”
“What?! How embarrassing. No wonder they kicked her out of the Brooks family.”
“Plus, she’s not the Alpha’s daughter. She’ll eventually be kicked out of the pack. She must’ve married some random beta to gain legitimacy. Probably some
commoner.”
“Hey! If you don’t want to be torn to pieces, shut up now!” I warned in a low growl, flashing my fangs.
The two gossipy she-wolves rolled their eyes and hurried off.
Wanting to escape their words, I quickened my pace toward the exit of the
community.
When I was feeling down, I usually kept my head low, charging forward as if I could run away from everything. I just wanted to lose myself in the forest, to run without care, but I could barely breathe from the weight of it all.
“Watch out!”
A hand suddenly grabbed my arm, pulling me back just in time. I spun around and found myself in the arms of a man. My hands pressed against his firm chest, and his warm arms wrapped tightly around my waist.
“You almost hit the lamppost,” he

murmured in a deep, magnetic voice- one that sounded familiar. I looked up, surprised.
“Why are you back?” I asked, confused. Didn’t he have something to handle? Hadn’t he left already?
Alexander Lancaster gave me a long, meaningful look. “I just remembered there was something more important I needed to do.”
I frowned. “What is it?”
He didn’t answer right away, just kept staring at me with intensity. His hand on my waist seemed to pull me even closer, and his other hand lightly rubbed my

wrist.
The atmosphere grew heavy, and I quickly pulled back, pretending like nothing happened. Alexander only chuckled, a low, satisfied sound. He must’ve noticed my discomfort, as he then took my suitcase from me, effortlessly lifting it and placing it in the trunk of his car.
He opened the passenger door and gestured for me to get in. “Get in the car.”
“Where are we going?”
“To the council center,” Alexander replied.
I froze, my eyes widening. Wait, what?! The invitation to the marking ceremony

was supposed to be a temporary plan. I was thinking we could spend more time together before considering what’s next. But if we went to the werewolf council
center now, that meant he was going to mark me.
Seeing my hesitation, Alexander’s voice softened. “Just get in the car first.
There were a few werewolves hanging around the community exit, and I didn’t want to stay and let them gossip, so I got in the car.
As Alexander drove, he glanced at me in the passenger seat, visibly anxious.
“Why don’t you want to go to the
council?” he asked.
His words made it sound like he was asking if I just wanted a fling.
I cleared my throat, sitting up straight, my fingers nervously curling into fists in my lap.
“No, it’s just… I didn’t think it would happen so fast…”
Before he could say anything, I asked the question that had been bothering me: “Why the rush to register? Could it be…?”
I glanced at him, my eyes moving down to where his suit pants clung to his well-built form.

He was way too handsome to not have a mate. There had to be someone else to
help him through his heat period…
The world’s changing too fast. So many werewolves can’t adapt… and our birth rates are dropping lower every year. Is it… him? Is something wrong with him?
“Are you infertile?”
