Sierra froze for a second and instinctively looked at Wayne. He was smiling kindly at her.
“What’s wrong? That little rascal told me you already agreed, didn’t he? Or he lied to me?”
As he said this, the old man shot a disdainful look at Johnathan. “You really have no guts!”
Wayne’s disappointment in him was obvious now, and so was his clear favoritism toward Sierra.
Johnathan looked at Sierra, a bit helpless. “You did agree. No backing out.”
Sierra’s cheeks turned red. She really had agreed–but the circumstances back then…

As if guessing what she was thinking, Johnathan took her hand and asked, “Is there still something holding you back?”
Sierra shook her head.
No!
Not a single thing holding her back!
She and Johnathan had been through so much–life and death. She didn’t believe anything could separate them now.
With that in mind, she nodded. “Alright. Let’s get married.”
The moment marriage was mentioned, Wayne lit up. He started talking about all sorts of things. Johnathan and Sierra didn’t understand any of it, nor did they care. But Chase and Susie were actually really into it.
At first, they were a bit worried that Johnathan would lose his temper. But once they saw he wasn’t reacting, they got bolder. Susie offered all kinds of suggestions and finally said:
“Of course, these are just suggestions. What you do in the end is completely up to you two.”
Johnathan thought about it seriously and said, “Thanks.“.
That one word stunned everyone in the room. Susie was so moved she could barely speak.
Johnathan avoided their eyes and said, “It’s late. We’re going to get some rest.”
Susie quickly chimed in, “Right, right, you’re still not fully recovered. Go rest.”
“Sierra’s been through a lot, too. You both should get some sleep.”

Johnathan didn’t bother being polite. As soon as he heard that, he led Sierra straight back to their room

Wayne looked at Jose. “Jose, what about you?”
Jose immediately said, “Grandpa, I was wrong before. I won’t do anything like that ever again”
“Good!”
Wayne nodded in satisfaction.
Turns out, when you’re old, all you really want is to see the whole family together.
Sierra really was tired. She’d been on edge all this time. As soon as she lay down, she fell asleep. Johnathan wasn’t sleepy, though. He closed the door and came back out.
Chase had gone to the study to talk with the old man. Susie was off with the butler discussing the wedding The courtyard only had Jose left.
Hearing footsteps, Jose turned around. When he saw Johnathan, he instinctively wanted to call out his name–but remembering Johnathan’s dislike, he stopped himself.
The two brothers stared at each other for a long while. In the end, Johnathan spoke first.
“Back then–about those three people. How much do you know?”
Jose hadn’t expected that question and paused for a second before replying, “I don’t really know. But my mom always felt guilty. She used to say she owed you.”
After hesitating, he added, “I didn’t know anything about your mother. I was just-
Maybe he felt like any words would be meaningless. Jose didn’t finish.
Talking about the past made Johnathan’s breathing grow heavier, but he didn’t lash out like he used to. After a long while, he said:
“Help me figure out what really happened back then.”
There was definitely something they’d hidden from him.
Jose didn’t even hesitate. He nodded. “Alright. I’ll help you.”
He was overwhelmed. It had been more than twenty years, and this was the first time Johnathan had asked him for help. No matter what it was, he would help.
And to be honest, he was curious too. What had really happened back then?
When Susie came back from her talk with the butler, she saw her son looking visibly excited.
“What’s going on with you?”
