I could hear Xyla’s scream from the other end of the line.
“Zeke, why do you look like that? You’re freaking me out!”
Zeke struggled to get his words out.
“I finally believe the curse is real, Whitney. You’re the only one who can fix this. Come right away.”
Then, the call just cut off.
Shawn turned toward me.
“Want to go to the Ferguson’s residence? But you already helped me. Going now won’t save him.”
I smiled.
“Of course, I’m going. I bet things are wild over there right now.”
“I’ll come too.”
I was caught off guard when I saw Shawn getting dressed.
His father and Desmond were brothers. But 30 years ago, they had a falling–out over business. Since then, both sides had stayed out of each other’s lives.
Shawn noticed my puzzled look, smiled, and patted my head.
“Whitney, I’m your husband. It’s my job to protect you. I can’t just let other guys eye my wife.”
My face turned hot right away.
After I left the Ferguson’s residence, I ran into Shawn waiting outside.
He proposed, offering all his assets as wedding gifts.
I could feel how sincere he was, so I said yes. After that, we went straight to City Hall and registered our marriage.
As soon as the car pulled up outside Ferguson’s residence, Rebecca rushed over, opened the door, and dragged me to
Zeke
“Whitney, only you can help Zeke now. If you need anything, just say it. As long as we can do it, we’ll agree.”

“We’ve given him medication. He probably has about three days.”
Desmond was pacing around the room, clearly worried.
“Where’s Whitney? Didn’t Zeke say he already called her?”
Zeke struggled to lift his head and stared at the door. When he spotted me, surprise flickered in his eyes.
“Whitney, you’re finally here. I knew you’d save me!
“As long as you spend one night with me and lift the curse, I won’t die…”
Rebecca rushed me to his side. “Zeke, Whitney is here. You’re going to be fine!”

Xyla, who had been standing near the bed, stared in shock and blurted out, “No way! You must be mistaken! Aren’t people always saying the Ferguson curse is fake?
“Desmond, Rebecca, don’t let Whitney trick you!”
Rebecca was so mad that she slapped Xyla.
“You have no right to talk! If you hadn’t tempted Zeke, none of this would’ve happened!
“We won’t acknowledge the wedding carlier. You–two haven’t even got the marriage certificates. The only daughter- in–law we accept is Whitney.”
Xyla clutched her cheek, now red and swollen, and looked at Zeke with tears.
“Zeke, your mom hit me because of that awful Whitney! This isn’t fair. You have to speak up for me!”
But Zeke only focused on me. He begged me softly.
“Whitney, I messed up. I swear, once I’m better, I’ll give you the wedding you deserve. I want you to be my wife.
“I’ll make Xyla and her kid move out. They won’t bother you.
“Zeke, not cool saying you want to marry my wife while I’m standing right here.”
