I rushed over. “What are you doing?”
He looked up and smiled. “Same as you,
enjoying the breeze.”
We sat down by the lake, quiet and relaxed.
“Simon, sometimes you can’t get what you
want. If you obsess too much, it’ll hurt. If you
let go, maybe things will work out,” I said
gently.
く
He turned to me, his eyes fixed on mine. “Do
you think I have a chance of getting what I
want?”
Ugh… I remembered the notification. This
was a smutty story. He was one of the guys.
“If you live a good life, anything’s possible,” I
said.
“But I feel like I can’t get it…‘
He looked down, sad and lonely. “I miss my
parents.”
I sighed. I remembered that little boy hiding in
the shadows. I reached out to pat his head
like I used to.
But then I stopped myself and pulled my hand
back.
“Your parents want you to live a good life.
You know that, right?” I said.
He looked at me. “Why did you pull your hand
back?”
I hesitated. “You’re all grown up. You
probably don’t want me doing that anymore.”
“You’re always like that. You’re nice to
people, but you don’t let their kindness get to
you. You always keep yourself separate,” he
said.
Huh? Was he complimenting me?
“I want Brianna,” he said.
OMG, “I want Brianna!” I can’t resist these
dark guys showing their true feelings! I’m
shipping it so hard!
Sugar Plum’s being too nice. She’s probably
jealous and gonna stab them in the back.
Doesn’t matter what she does. The female
lead has the guys protecting her. Sugar
Plum’s always gonna fail!
I ignored the notifications and said, “You’re a grown man. You know what you want. Good
luck.”
Brianna had a few tricks up her sleeve, but I
think Simon knew that. He liked her anyway.
Her little schemes were probably cute to him.
And if Brianna was the main character, she
probably wasn’t evil.
So I wished them well.
The next day, I went back to the Su family
home.
My dad took a sip of tea in the study. “I heard
those boys who used to chase after you have
a new target?”
I didn’t say anything.
He chuckled. “Young people. They’re so
fickle. You ran off overseas and gave them a
chance to find someone else. What a waste.”
“Dad, even if I don’t marry, I can run the Su
L
family. Why won’t you give me a chance?” I
said.
He scoffed. “Do you know how much a
marriage alliance can benefit the family? The
four great families are above the Su family. A
marriage could get us into the top five. I want
the family to grow, not just survive.
Understand?”
I looked down. I knew I had to pay for the life
I had.
“Your brother will be an adult soon. If you
can’t get the Su family a better deal, I won’t
let you into the core. You can just be a rich
girl with no worries.” My dad said.
I had to control the Su family. My mom had
spent her whole life on it, and my brother was
<
just a stepbrother.
