Chapter 6
When I continued ignoring him, Grayson’s face darkened,
It had been a long time since he’d humbled himself like this only to have me refuse to forgive him.
But right now, he didn’t dare lose his temper. Instead, he ordered several of my favorite dishes and tried to compromise: “Alright, you guys enjoy your meal, then come back to the office when you’re done.”
“I’ll let this whole playing hooky thing slide.”
“And I’ll lift those salary cuts too. Are you happy now?”
His hand pressed down on my shoulder, applying pressure.
As if to say: I’ve made my concessions, so you can stop this tantrum now.
He was waiting for me to give in and throw him a bone. 0
But I just smiled.
My whole team was trying not to laugh.
One of them helpfully explained: “Mr. Whitmore, you seriously don’t get it, do you? We’ve already put in our resignations. You’re not our boss inymore.”
So stop trying to use us to threaten our boss. That game’s over.”
Grayson froze.
He’d thought my earlier talk about quitting was just a bluff to scare him. He hadn’t realized we’d actually gone through with it.
But then something occurred to him, and he let out a cold laugh: “You’re all in on this little act to mess with me, aren’t you?”
Mass resignations like this can’t go through without my approval.”
Alright, enough games. What do you want? Just tell me your demands instead of making me guess.”
ven now, he still thought I was playing hard to get, using leverage to negotiate with him.
‘athetic.
kept eating without saying a word.
One of my teammates laughed: “Mr. Whitmore, you really have a terrible memory.”
This morning when we went to quit, HR called you about it.”
You were at the movies with Ivy and told him to handle it himself and stop bothering you.”
Don’t you remember?”
t hit him like a lightning bolt.
uddenly he remembered that phone call.
le frantically dialed HR: “Celeste’s team quit? And you approved it?”
Mr. Walker sounded like he was about to cry: “Mr. Whitmore, you gave permission yourself…”
rayson choked on a curse word and started yelling: “Those were regular employees!”

Chapter 6
“Celeste’s team brings in most of our revenue! You let them go? Are you trying to bankrupt the company?”
“You’re completely idoit! Pack your shit and get out–you’re fired too!”
He slammed the phone down.
Then he turned back to me with a softer tone: “Look at this mess–it’s all because of incompetent staff.”
“You and your team are our backbone. Why would I ever want to fire you?”
As he spoke, he reached out to massage my shoulders.
I shifted away from his touch and said mockingly: “Why even care? I thought Ivy was doing all my work anyway?”
“A deadweight like me quitting should save the company money. You should be celebrating–why panicking?”
