Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“Thank goodness nothing happened to our Vale family heir,” Mason’s mother sighed with relief.
“Yes, we mother and child must be truly blessed,” Willow smiled, displaying just the right amount of fragility.
Her belly was now nearly ten months along–she could give birth any day. And Lyra just happened to have her accident at this exact time. It was an unexpected windfall!
Without Lyra in the picture, she could naturally become the Vale family’s lady of the house. After all, she was carrying Mason’s child now. Even if Mason didn’t love her, he’d keep her in the family for the baby’s sake.
Willow stroked her belly with a smile.
Just as she was about to chat more with Mason’s mother, the front door suddenly burst open–Mason had returned.
Willow’s eyes lit up with delight as she hurried over, supporting her belly. “Mason, you’re back! I was so scared yesterday when you weren’t here. Thank God the baby’s okay. Look, I should be giving birth any day now.”
She took Mason’s hand, trying to place it on her belly, but Mason’s face was ice–cold as he yanked his hand away.
“Funny, you don’t look worried to me. The doctor’s examination showed absolutely nothing was wrong with you.” His voice was frigid.
Willow froze for a moment, her smile forced. “That’s why I said thank God the baby’s okay…”
“Exactly, Mason. What’s the meaning of treating Willow like this the moment you get home? She could go into labor any minute–she can’t handle this
stress.
I know you’re hurting because Lyra died, but Willow’s pregnant. You should at least consider her feelings.”
His mother came to her defense, making Willow’s expression improve slightly.
Mason looked at Willow and his parents, then suddenly let out a cold laugh.
“She knows exactly what she’s done!” He called the butler over. “Play this video. Let them all see this woman’s true face!”
The butler nodded and skillfully operated the living room’s large screen. Willow’s heart sank with unease, and seeing the surveillance footage made her face go white.
Everything she had done was being broadcast–all the ugly, slanderous, inexcusable acts–displayed right in her face, making her turn pale.
“Mason, let me explain… it’s not what it looks like. There were reasons for everything…” she said weakly, trying to explain.
‘It’s because I trusted you too much before. I never imagined you’d slander Lyra so many times.” Mason watched it a second time, his heart in even more agony, as if sliced by knives. He couldn’t bear to think–if he was in this much pain now, how much must Lyra have suffered going through all of
this?
He stared intently at Willow. “I won’t be having a makeup wedding. Lyra will be my only wife for life. As for the child you’re carrying, I won’t keep it
either. We’re-”
Before he could finish, his mother cut him off disapprovingly.
“Do you know what you’re saying?! After all these years, our family finally has a child, and you don’t want it?! I’m telling you, absolutely not. This child must stay, and Willow must be our daughter–in–law. Lyra is already dead!”
Before Willow could even smile, Mason turned a cold gaze on his parents.
In the past, he’d always felt that once this whole mess was over, he could make it up to Lyra.
As for his parents, he’d felt he owed them something too–after all these years, their only wish was to have a grandchild. But now, he wouldn’t forgive or compromise with anyone who had wronged Lyra.
Chapter 12
“Years ago, there was an accident. Lyra was injured trying to save me–that’s how she damaged her uterus and became unable to have children. All these years, I’ve owed her my life, not the other way around.”
After he finished speaking, his mother was stunned at first, as if she hadn’t expected this version of events. But she quickly brushed it off.
“Even so, Lyra’s dead now. What matters is cherishing what we have. Mason, stop saying things out of spite. We don’t have to redo the wedding, but the child must stay. This is Vale blood.”
Hope ignited in Willow’s eyes as she waited for him to agree.
But even before Lyra’s accident, he had already compromised too many times and disappointed her too many times.
This time Mason didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely not. Not only will I not keep this child, but I’ll make sure Willow pays the price she deserves!”
