Chapter 15
“You ungrateful son! Are you really going to fight with your own parents over a dead woman? What’s wrong with Willow? As long as she can bear children, that’s enough!” Mason’s parents had been under house arrest at the old mansion for days, repeating vLyrations of the same arguments.
Mason wasn’t surprised when he walked in. While Lyra was alive, they had constantly tormented her. Now that she was dead, these people were probably even more arrogant.
Perhaps having completely vented his emotions, Mason now felt his mind was clear.
He walked in step by step. His parents paused when they saw him, then continued, “You’re finally willing to come. Look at yourself–what will people think? They’ll laugh at the Vale family!
Call off your people, then marry Willow. Make a public announcement about it. And don’t forget about the child either. We’re doing this for your own good, Mason.”
When they’d used family punishment on Lyra, when they’d suggested sending her abroad, his parents had also said “for your own good, for the family.”
He hadn’t thought much about it before, but now, considering it carefully, how stupid he must have been to follow those words.
Mason’s lips curved into a smile.
Mason’s parents thought this was a sign of reconciliation and pressed their advantage. “We know you’re sad about Lyra’s death. You should have adjusted by now after these past few days. Everything before was just impulsive behavior.”
“Lyra died because of you. If you hadn’t insisted on sending her abroad, she wouldn’t have been in that accident. You killed her.” Mason spoke calmly.
His parents were stunned for a moment, then immediately became furious. “What do you mean by that? If she hadn’t been unable to have children and kept harming Willow, would we have done that? Besides, you agreed to send Lyra abroad too!
Mason, she’s dead now–nothing we say matters. The important thing is to live well with Willow.”
“Lyra never harmed Willow. Don’t you know the truth about all those incidents?” Mason looked around the old mansion, filled with precious items.
As he spoke, he ordered the butler to move everything out. “Lyra was innocent. She did nothing wrong. We misunderstood her and caused her death. You’re at fault, and so am I–I didn’t believe her.”
Antiques and paintings, porcelain vases and jewelry–piece by piece, everything was being moved out. His parents‘ hearts were in shock–those were priceless treasures!
“Mason Vale, what the hell are you doing!” his father roared.
Mason remained calm. “Compensation.”
“You’re my parents. I won’t hurt you, but you killed Lyra. Until you apologize to her and admit your mistakes, you’ll stay here. The Vale family is no longer yours to control.”
His mother fainted from rage. They never imagined that for the sake of Lyra, Mason could go this far!
One by one, everything in the old mansion was moved out. Mason left only two servants to handle their daily needs, then departed with his people, ignoring his father’s scolding behind him.
Next, he returned to the villa’s basement. The butler immediately approached him.
“Mr. Vale, you’re back. Ms. Harper’s mental state is very poor. Should we call a doctor?”
Mason glanced over indifferently. “No need. As long as she doesn’t die. She can only die after she’s paid back everything she owes Lyra.”
