Chapter 17
When he emerged from the basement again, the butler handed him a handkerchief. “Mr. Vale, the DNA test results on the remains are back. They don’t match Ms. Blackwood’s DNA. It’s possible she didn’t die.”
Mason wiped his hands with the handkerchief, his dulled eyes brightening slightly. “What did you say?”
“We found small amounts of human tissue that don’t match Ms. Blackwood’s DNA. Also, the airline reported that one passenger was a no–show that day. It could have been Ms. Blackwood, but it’s also possible they made a mistake.” The butler spoke with his head lowered.
This investigation result brought Mason hope. As long as there was even a sliver of a chance, he wouldn’t give up easily.
“In that case, go find her. Keep searching until we know where Lyra is. If she wasn’t in an accident, she must be hiding somewhere because she’s still angry. Get boots on the ground across the country, and make sure this goes viral too.
Anyone who has information about Lyra gets a reward.”
Within just one week, news about Lyra hit the trending topics.
In a video, Mason quietly recounted his and Lyra’s past–they’d been married for five years and had always been deeply in love. Before marriage, because Lyra had damaged her uterus saving him, he’d defied his family and endured 99 lashes of family punishment, determined to live child–free with his wife.
But then… his expression darkened as he explained how a woman had stolen a used condom and artificially inseminated herself with his sperm, destroying his home. His parents had actually demanded she give birth to this child.
Mason’s voice was cold throughout, his expression only showing emotion when he reached the part about the plane crash Lyra had supposedly been
- on.
The current conclusion was that Lyra–his wife–might not be dead, just missing. So Vale Corporation was offering substantial rewards to anyone with
real information about Lyra’s whereabouts!
This news stunned everyone online. Many comments expressed sympathy for their love story, others found Willow despicable.
Combined with Vale Corporation’s well–known wealth, practically everyone in the country was paying attention to this story. But still, no one had any information about Lyra.
At first, Mason barely ate or slept, only staring at online platforms, terrified of missing any information. But there was nothing–Lyra seemed to have
vanished from the world entirely.
Overwhelming despair crashed over him. Mason felt like he’d walked into a dead end. Why was there no news of Lyra anywhere? Unwilling to give up, he spread the message internationally, but apart from drawing attention, there was no useful information at all.
The butler approached. “Mr. Vale, you haven’t rested in a very long time. Your body won’t be able to take it.”
Mason stared calmly at his phone. “I’m fine. Finding Lyra as soon as possible is what matters most.”
He stood up and immediately felt dizzy, his vision going white as the whole world seemed to buzz.
He forced himself to take a step, then immediately lost consciousness and collapsed.
When Mason woke up again, he found himself in a hospital.
“Mr. Vale, you’re awake.”
He was confused for a moment, then immediately grabbed his phone. “How long was I out? Has there been any news about Lyra during this time? Have we found her yet?”
Before his trembling hands could unlock the screen, the butler spoke. “You were only unconscious for three days. There’s still no news of Ms. Blackwood, but the doctor recommends you rest longer. Otherwise, if you collapse again, you might not wake up next time.”

He felt as if all his strength had been drained away. His hand loosened and the phone dropped.
Mason fell back onto the hospital bed, murmuring, “We must pay attention to everything. We can’t miss any clue. Lyra–my Lyra is definitely waiti for me to find her.”
