Chapter 21
Lyra let go of Ethan’s hand. She’d already gotten a call from her mother earlier, knowing Mason had been waiting at the door. When Ethan heard this, he’d asked if she wanted to stay at his place for the night.
Lyra had refused everything. She wasn’t the one who’d done wrong–she didn’t need to hide from anything.
Similarly, she had no intention of hiding the fact that Ethan was pursuing her. Because no matter what she did, Mason had no right to question it
Lyra looked coldly at the man in front of her. “Who he is isn’t your business.”
In an instant, Mason’s heart felt like it was being stabbed with needles. On the plane, he’d imagined countless scenarios, but he’d never thought that when he saw Lyra again, she’d be this cold to him–and have someone new by her side.
The suffocating feeling came from all directions, wrapping around his throat as if to strangle him. Looking into those icy eyes for a long moment, Mason finally found his voice.
‘Lyra, I know you’re angry. I know I was wrong. Willow, my parents–I’ve dealt with all of it for you. Come back with me, okay? We’ll remarry. I’ll never let you get hurt again.”
Mason trembled as he reached out, but Lyra stepped away.
We’re already divorced, Mason.” She spoke coldly.
No!” Mason shouted suddenly. “That was all fake! I never truly wanted to separate from you, Lyra. I really know I was wrong–give me one chance to nake it up to you, okay? I promise nothing will ever hurt you again!”
Mason’s voice was full of complex emotions, his anguished tone heartbreaking to hear.
But Lyra showed no reaction, just nodded calmly.
I understand, but I won’t forgive you. Go back, Mason.”
Her words once overflowed with love, but now Mason couldn’t feel any of it.
He panicked, looking at her pleadingly.
Lyra, I’m sorry. I was wrong before–wanting a child so badly that I kept ignoring you. I shouldn’t have distrusted you. Can you forgive me?”
yra remained just as distant, showing neither hatred nor joy.
I understand. I don’t care about any of that anymore.”
Mason’s heart sank as if cut by a knife, his face turning pale.
Are you still holding a grudge against me… I really know I was wrong. It took me so long to find you–please don’t send me away, okay? Lyra, give me ne chance. I’ll definitely make it up to you.”
The man’s eyes reddened, his voice pleading and pitiful, as if he might shed tears for her at any moment. This was the first time Lyra had ever seen Mason like this, but it was too late. They’d ended the moment he pulled out those divorce papers.
Lyra didn’t respond to his words, just watched him. In her calm eyes, there wasn’t a trace of love for him—not even hatred.
Mason’s heart felt like it was being crushed, making it hard to breathe. His voice trembling, he inched closer to the woman he loved.
“I know I did wrong, Lyra. Trust me–not just me, I’ve punished all those people too. I won’t want children anymore. I only want you, Lyra. I only want
you
She was right there in front of him, like his salvation. Mason tried to pull her into his arms, but Ethan pushed him away.
Mason snapped his head up, eyes flashing with anger. “Who the hell are you? Get lost!”
Ethan’s expression grew serious, his words equally cold.
“I’m nobody special, but I know Lyra doesn’t want to talk to you right now, and she doesn’t want to see you.”
Ethan’s intimate way of addressing her nearly drove Mason insane. He didn’t dare think about their relationship, his voice trembling as he looked at Lyra almost fearfully.
“Lyra, tell me who is this guy really…”
The once proud man was now groveling to win back the woman he loved, ready to sacrifice everything just to show her his sincerity, filled with
nothing but regret and anguish.
But Lyra didn’t need it anymore.
