Chapter 22
“You want to know who he is?” Lyra stared into Mason’s eyes.
The man nodded.
The next second, Lyra pressed her hand to the back of Ethan’s head and kissed him. “Now he’s my boyfriend.”
Not only was Mason shocked, his eyes widening as his heart shattered watching the woman he loved kiss another man, but Ethan was equally surprised. However, he quickly recovered, wrapping one arm around Lyra’s waist and returning an even deeper, more passionate kiss.
He hadn’t expected that after months of pursuing her, he’d get his answer today. His heart felt like a pie had fallen from heaven–he wanted to devour Lyra completely.
Ethan didn’t care that someone else was watching. He held Lyra tightly in his arms until she was breathless, then reluctantly let go.
Lyra caught her breath, her reddened lips still glistening. “Now you know. Stop looking for me.”
This scene made Mason’s heart feel like it was shattering. He shook his head in disbelief. “This isn’t real, Lyra. This is just an excuse, right? You’re just trying to get rid of me. Lyra, I won’t leave. I’ll make you understand that I’m sincere.”
‘Whatever. Just don’t get in my way.” Lyra didn’t want to waste more meaningless words on him. She took Ethan’s hand and walked past the man blocking her path, returning to the villa.
That door didn’t open for him. Mason could only stand outside listening to the joyful voices within.
‘Ethan’s staying the night? How wonderful!” Mrs. Blackwood prepared happily.
‘Yeah, have the housekeeper set up the guest room for him. Mom, don’t worry about it.” Lyra’s voice carried gentle exasperation–nothing like the
coldness she’d shown him.
‘It might rain tonight. Let me help you bring in the laundry, Mrs. Blackwood.” Now that he’d gotten his answer, Ethan was even more enthusiastic than before, making the whole family laugh.
They chatted happily inside the villa while Mason stood alone outside.
Before long, heavy rain began to fall, thunder crashing down like it was striking his heart.
Mason stood motionless, letting the heavy rain soak him completely. He looked up, gazing obsessively through the curtains at Lyra’s silhouette, magining what she might be doing.
Before, he would dry Lyra’s hair for her, prepare her nightgown, and then they would inevitably end up tangled together in bed, his chest filled with her love for him.
He stayed in the rain all night. The door never opened. Mason had no intention of leaving–he’d stay until Lyra was willing to see him.
The second day, the third day–Mason seemed to have become a stone statue.
Mockingly, Ethan hadn’t left the Blackwood house these past few days either.
When Mason looked up and saw his figure, he was nearly blind with rage. How dare he enter Lyra’s room!
But what happened next made him even more furious, yet he had nowhere to vent his anger.
Lyra and Ethan leaned against the window, their lips locked in a kiss. Instantly, his mind replayed the memory of her breathless gasps when he had kissed her–now those sounds twisted into razor blades, slicing through his heart, carving him open.
His eyes burned crimson, vision swimming with rage. Every muscle in his body screamed to tear them apart. No one–no one–touched his Lyra!
But in reality, no matter how frantically he pounded on the door, there was no response at all.
Chapter 21
Mason could only watch in despair as 1.yra and Ethan’s silhouettes slowly intertwined…
Ilis lyra!
Mason violently punched the villa’s front door, letting out an agonized roar, then completely passed out.
