Chapter 23

When he woke up again, he found himself in a hospitaland Lyra was right there in front of him

It all felt like a dream. He didn’t even dare reach out to test whether she was real or just his imagination

Mason’s eyes were bloodshot, his breathing cautious

Lyra, you’re finally willing to see me”

Lyra nodded slightly

Do you still have feelings for me? Are you still angry? I really know I was wrong! Lyra, forgive me, give me one more chance! I don’t want anything elsenot Willow, not the child. Having you is enough, Lyra, Lyra”

His voice was thick with tears, as if he might cry at any moment. He desperately craved her response, craved her love

But from beginning to end, Lyra’s face remained expressionless, looking at him like he was a complete stranger

Mason’s heart was racing so hard it felt like it might burst out of his chest. If only it couldthen he’d show Lyra exactly how much he loved her, how he’d die without her

They’d loved each other for so long! How could she not want him

When Lyra remained silent, refusing to say a single word, Mason finally broke down, sobbing

Lyra, are you hating me? I got rid of Willow’s baby, I dealt with Willow too, and my parentsthey can only stay at the old mansion now, they’ll never interfere with us again. Lyra, forgive me, please forgive me!”

He spoke countless words of regret and apology, but Lyra continued to look at him coldly

Finally, she spoke. The person who hurt me was always you, Mason. I don’t love you anymore. I have a better life now. Don’t come in front of me again.”

With that, she turned to leave

No! Don’t

Mason jerked upright

His hand was still reaching forward, as if something had slipped through his fingers

It had all been a dream

Mason fearfully lowered his hand, but the next second, he noticed a sticky note on his bedside table

As if sensing something, Mason picked it up with trembling hands

[I don’t love you anymore. Stop looking for me.

It was Lyra’s handwriting

Looking at those words, all of Mason’s persistence instantly shattered. He couldn’t help but break down sobbing

Lyra was right about everything. The person who hurt her was always just one personhimself

He was the one who’d been drawn to Willow’s warmth, starting with just wanting a child, then wanting a real family of three. He was the one who repeatedly refused to believe Lyra

Even when his parents suggested sending her abroad, he was the one who agreed and personally bought the ticket

Chapter 23

He was the one who deserved punishment most! If Lyra hadn’t missed that flight, she really would have been in an accident, and he never would have seen her again

Mason shakily pulled out the IV from his hand, got out of bed, and walked to the window

This was the 22nd floor. If he died here, Lyra would surely understand his apology

Mason looked down at the tiny scenery below and suddenly saw a blurry figure

He squinted hard and realized it was Lyra

Her long hair was caught in the wind. She looked up, seeming to meet his gaze, then quickly turned and left the hospital

Mason didn’t know if Lyra could see him from such a distance, but he’d lost all thoughts of ending his life. If he died, he’d truly never see Lyra again

He stood by the window for a long time, his frail form looking ready to collapse at any moment in his weakened state

Mason picked up his phone. Book me a flight back home.”

The butler paused for two seconds. Mr. Vale, do you need one ticket or two?”

He looked at the woman he’d never see again, a bitter smile crossing his lips as tears slid down his cheeks

One. Just one.”
