Chapter 24
When Lyra got word, she found that Mason had already left. The hospital nurse said he’d discharged himself before fully recovering, apparently returning home to the States.
Lyra didn’t care. She’d said everything that needed saying and done everything that needed doing. She hadn’t wronged anyone.
She left the hospital, and as soon as she got home, she was pulled into a warm embrace.
“Why did you go to the hospital again?” Ever since getting his official status, Ethan had started getting secretly jealous.
Lyra found it a bit amusing–why did some people get more childish the longer they dated? She hugged the aggrieved man and explained.
“Just handling some discharge paperwork. Mason’s gone–back to the States. He won’t be coming back. You can relax now.”
Only then did Ethan nod with satisfaction. “He should’ve left ages ago. You’re too soft–hearted, sending him to the hospital. Should’ve just let him die outside.”
“I just felt that even for a stranger, I couldn’t just watch someone die.” Lyra kissed Ethan, then looked upstairs. “Where are my parents? I don’t see them around.”
Ethan’s gaze shifted away.
Lyra immediately realized something was up and pinched his face threateningly. “Spill it! Where are they? What did you all do behind my back?”
‘Okay, okay, I’ll tell you!” Ethan surrendered. “Your parents said if we keep going like this, we’ll never get married, so they went to my house to discuss getting engaged first…Wait! Lyra!”
Before he could finish, Lyra had run out. She hadn’t expected her parents to go without even discussing it with her! What if Ethan’s family didn’t like ner? And she couldn’t have children–with that issue, how could they casually talk about engagement?
Lyra was panicked. Not having time to contact her parents, she rushed straight to the Mitchell house. The butler told her they were in the study, so Lyra went upstairs. Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard voices inside.
‘Lyra can’t get pregnant? We know about that, and it’s fine. As long as the young people love each other, that’s what matters. If they want children ater, they can always adopt.”
‘Exactly. We’ve known about this for years. Ethan doesn’t mind either–he says having Lyra is enough for him. Same for us. What’s all this talk about carrying on the Mitchell bloodline? This isn’t the feudal era.”
But if Lyra’s health isn’t good, she should take more supplements. Don’t we still have that ginseng? You should give it to Lyra to take home.”
yra slowed her steps. Before coming here, she’d thought the Mitchell family would be furious. After all, her damaged uterus meant she couldn’t bear hildren. Even if Ethan didn’t mind, surely the older generation would care about this.
But she hadn’t expected the Mitchell family to only be concerned about her health from beginning to end.
she slowly pushed open the door. The elders from both families turned around, and seeing her, immediately smiled.
‘Lyra’s here! We were just discussing whether you and Ethan should get engaged first. If you don’t want to get married now, that’s fine–Ethan can
wait.”
‘Exactly, no rush. If you don’t want to get engaged, that’s okay too. We can just treat today as a friendly chat between our families.”
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell smiled warmly. For some reason, Lyra’s eyes began to well up.
At that moment, Ethan stood behind her and gently took her hand.
“I told you my parents really like you.”
He gently pushed Lyra forward a step.
Chapter 24
This was her truly new life beginning.
She held back the tears in her eyes and smiled brightly.
“No, I’m not unwilling. Ethan and I can get engaged first, then pick a good day to get married and register.”
Both families were stunned for a moment, then burst with joy. Even Ethan hadn’t expected Lyra to agree so directly.
He spoke anxiously, “Lyra, are you serious? You don’t have to force yourself–I can wait for you.”
“I’m not forcing myself. I just think now is perfect.”
She smiled, gripping Ethan’s hand tightly.
The End.
